"You wanna raise my son?"
"Anything to get him away from you. You can come after me all you want, just leave Mac and the rest of my family alone. Forever."
I snap out of it and put my head down as I sit on the couch. I squeeze my eyes shut and my ears start to ring. An ache now passes through my chest and I grab the infinity box off the coffee table. I turn the door, but I stop as my phone goes off. I take my phone out of my pocket and look at the text from Matty.

"The rotten egg has finally shown themselves." Russ quirks up as I enter.
"Climb out of my ass, old man." I close the door and head over. "What the hell?" I look at Evan in a scouting uniform.
"Riley was helping me volunteer at the Cub Scouts, didn't have time to change." Evan huffs.
"And I, for one, am so glad that you didn't." I sit on the arm of the chair.
"Oh, that makes two of us." Desi agrees.
"Alright, if we're done making fun of Evan, listen up. Three hours ago, there was an explosion at a building undergoing renovations in Karlsruhe, Germany. This is what's left." Matty pulls it up on the screen and an ache passes through my infected ears, making me swipe my chin on my shoulder. "We don't know what caused the blast, but CCTV of the surrounding area suggests that it originated within or below the building's concrete foundation."
"That's weird, right?" Riley speaks up.
"Super weird cause it means it wasn't a ruptured gas line or an electrical malfunction, and there are no subterranean natural resources in that part of Europe with any combustible properties." Evan tells her.
"What we do know is that, when the building collapsed, dozens of construction workers from the weekend shift were trapped inside." Russ stands up.
"So it's a rescue op." Landon crosses his arms from the corner of my eye.
"With some engineering challenges, which you are uniquely qualified to solve. This is a highly technical, not to mention dangerous, operation. I want you to have every resource the second you need it, so McKenna and I will be staying back with Matty to help coordinate." He puts his hands in his pockets and my phone buzzes silently.
I discreetly take it out my pocket and look at the text from my sister about coming down to visit her this weekend. My vision suddenly becomes blurry and I blink a few times. My vision gets a little clearer and I see a text from Murdoc. I tense up and almost drop my phone.
