Song: Canon Event by Daniel Pemberton

As I opened my eyes I saw Steven standing by the door again. I groaned as I got up from where I was laying. "Anything new?" I asked Steven, but he didn't reply. As I got closer to the door, I saw through the window that the hooded woman wasn't there anymore. I furrowed my brows to see if I could get a better look inside. I placed my forehead on the glass to see if I could get a better look inside, but all I saw was a small black figure on the boat walking around. "Is that a..." "dog. Yup. There is now a dog on the boat." Steven replied. "I'm a killer but I would have never kill a dog." Steven stayed quiet as he continued to observe the black dog on the boat. "...underworld, black dog, the boat...Anubis..." Steven spoke quietly. I turned with confusion written on my face. "Can you speak in English and not riddles?" "Think about it Marc. Anubis protects the souls of the underworld, he is a black jackal, which is another breed of what?" "Dog?" "EXACTLY! And who did we just get partnered up with?" My eyes widened as I realized the dots he just connected. "Anubis...but wait who could that woman be then?" "I'm not sure. There's still no telling on who she could be. But atleast we got some part of this crazy puzzle down." I then looked back and saw that the dog was looking at us, its eyes were a beautiful chestnut brown color, but something about this whole thing just felt like a trap. I watched as the dog slowly approached the door, making us be able to tell what sort of breed it could be. The dog slowly came to a stop and sat right outside the doors. "Well aren't you a cute little German shepherd. I wish I had a treat to give you." Steven spoke in this baby voice to the dog. I just looked at him with an annoyed look. "Steven, we don't even know if this dog is wanting to kill us, why are you going to give it a treat?" "I don't know Marc, maybe because I want to. It's not my fault I have a heart, you animal hater." "I never said- you know what, nevermind, I give up." "...Marc...where did it go?..." I look back at the windows and saw that the dog was missing. I shrugged my shoulders. "Oh well, guess we only get to see it for a couple of min- OH SHIT!" As I turned around the dog was right in front of us. Me and Steven were in each other's arms waiting to see if the dog was going to do anything to us. "Uh, hello there fella...are you friendly?..." Steven slowly began to bend down to try and pet the dog. "Steven are you crazy?!" I said through my gritted teeth. As Steven's hand began to pat the top of the dog's head, it started try and lick his face. I let out a breath I was holding, not knowing if the dog was going to attack him or not. "Aren't you a sweet. Do you have a name Mr...huh...uh Marc, do we own a dog?" I looked at him as if he was stupid. "No Steven, we don't have a dog." "Then why is our address on the collar?" "What?" I bent down and looked at the shiny metal that had our address engraved in it. "Steven, we've never owned a dog. All we have are those fish and that's it. We never...I never had time to take care of one. I was always busy trying to find the scarab and stopping Harrow. Owning a dog was never in question." "So does that mean we'll get one in the future?" "I don't know. Truly these dreams, visions, whatever you want to call them, can just be a wild goose chase. These could have no meaning whatsoever. This dog is here maybe because it knows we're lonely and probably need therapy. These could just be from the stress of everything trying to conjure something up, I don't know. The point is, we don't know what this means, we don't know what any of this means. So for now, let's just think that this isn't real, and if these crazy dreams start coming true, then, and only then, should we start worrying about them." Steven looked at the dog again and continued to pet it. "Yea..I suppose you're right...but can we pretty please name him?" I sighed a shook my head a bit with a small smile. "Fine, you can name him." "YES! Alright, what should we call you?...shadow?" "Sounds a bit basic." "Well you name him Mr. Wise guy." As I looked at the dog, it felt as though something was connecting me to something...or someone...as if there's more to this dog than it really shows. "...how about Nero?" "Nero? What does that mean?" "It means Black in Italian." "Oh, that's not too bad actually. Alright, Nero it is then." The dog started to bark a bit with excitement as he then started to climb onto Steven and lick his face. It made me smile at the sight of Steven being happy, though for once it was the first time in a while that this hellhole felt nice. It felt like a dream should be. Filled with joy and laughter. But soon enough it would all end.
