Chapter 20- Dough Boys

A/N: Bit of a timeskip here, I had too many ideas for how I was going to do the last handful of chapters of this and This is what I ended up sticking with, so here ya go folks, enjoy!

2ish Months later, October... 1st

Chloe leaned back against the headrest of Lucifer's Corvette with her eyes closed as he drove to her second OBGYN appointment. Her head was pounding and she felt rather warm. Lucifer drove the speed limit for once, sending worried glances her way every so often. They had been at work, Chloe doing paperwork and Lucifer had been watching her like a hawk, which had become the norm. The last couple weeks had been hellish for her as far as pregnancy symptoms go and he was relieved that appointment number two had been today. If it wasn't he would have insisted she see a doctor regardless.

The twins had been a cakewalk compared to this. She was in agony eighty percent of the time and Lucifer wouldn't stop hovering, which made matters worse. To be fair, she had fainted just twenty minutes ago, but she felt alot better now. She was fine.

I'm fine.

At their first appointment, they had discovered they were in fact only expecting one child- thank Dad- but it had been too early to know the sex. Chloe had tried to convince Lucifer to keep it a surprise this time, but inevitably agreed that they would do a gender reveal party. They entrusted Ella with the gender. So today, the doctor was going to seal it in an envelope and when they were done they would go back to the precinct and hand the envelope to Ella. She would then get cupcakes, all but one with white frosting inside. The special cupcake would either contain pink or blue,it would be a roulette as to who got the cupcake with the gender inside. Now Lucifer considered canceling. Hehad been trying to convince Chloe to take some time off for the last two weeks, but she wouldn't budge.

"We're here," Lucifer's accented voice broke her from her thoughts.

She opened her eyes and turned to him. "Okay," she breathed. "Let's do this."

"There they are, Hello Miss Decker and Mister Morningstar. I am so happy to see you two again," Doctor Wolfe beamed as she waltzed into her small office. "So you two wanted me to give you the gender in an envelope today?"

"Yup, That's right," Chloe replied.

"Great, so as usual, I'm going to do an ultrasound," she said as she took the tube of ultrasound gel from the shelf.

"Perfect, thank you," Chloe smiled.

Lucifer was weirdly quiet as they did the ultrasound, only making sounds of acknowledgement. When the doctor pointed out the baby's head and relative size.

"So, being my third pregnancy and never having experienced the symptoms I'm having this time around has us a little concerned." Chloe mentioned while Doctor Wolfe wiped the remaining gel off with a paper towel.

"What symptoms are you experiencing?" The doctor asked as she sat in her chair.

"Headaches, searing muscle pain, high fevers," Chloe listed.

She fainted today at work," Lucifer interjects quietly, speaking for the first time since the doctor had entered.

Doctor Wolfe turned her attention to him, then back to Chloe. "Oh, well that's... definitely not good," she said slowly. "I'd like to get some bloodwork from you then, maybe we can get to the bottom of this."

Chloe made a face and reluctantly agreed when Lucifer insisted she listen to the doctor. Doctor Wolfe writes her a sick note to be off for the remainder of the week before letting them know he results will be back in a couple of days.
