*This is short, I know and I apologise but I can't think of anything else to write*
Also do other people refer to the books as 'the yellow one' or 'the green one' cos they can't remember the official titles?
(No idea when this is set, it works with any of the books from the 1st to the 8th so I'll let you pick)
________________________________Friday sat on the grass, letting herself enjoy the warm breeze that drifted calmly through the school.
Melanie was next to her, napping as usual after a long hard day of being awake.
Ian was next to her, his books open on the grass and his fingers spinning his pen while he studied. For once, there was no fighting between them, no mystery's to solve and no stress. It was just...peaceful. She let herself enjoy the moment.
But the moment ended when a third form boy came jogging over to where the girls sat under a large tree.
"Barnes. The Headmaster is asking for you."
Friday frowned. "But it's Saturday. He never asks for anything on the weekends."
The boy shrugged. Friday stood up, dusting the dirt from her jeans and collecting her cardigan, of which she had thrown onto the grass after she got too hot. Ian stood too, packing his things and throwing his bag over his shoulder. Friday woke Melanie gently and they set off along the oval for the Headmasters office.
When they got there, the door to the office was shut and they could hear the Headmaster yelling, probably at a student who had defaced school property. They sat in the wooden bench.
"I don't know about you," Ian whispered, leaning in so Friday could hear him better, "but I think we should get special seats just for us, considering how often we're up here."
"WAINSCOTT! IS THAT YOU I CAN HEAR WHISPERING?"
The door to the office swung open and a tall brunette boy sulked out of the office.
"Oh he's in a very good mood," Ian mumbled sarcastically as Friday stood up.
The Headmaster went a strange shade of purple. "What are you three doing here?"
"You called for me?"Friday clarified.
"Oh yes. There's someone here to see you." He swung the door open wider to reveal a slightly scared looking Uncle Bernie. He looked shocked at having just witnessed the Headmaster yell at a student as he hurried out of the room to hand Friday a box wrapped in yellow paper.
"What's this for?" Sha asked
"Your birthday...did you forget again?"
Friday nodded. Uncle Bernie sighed. "11th of October."
Friday checked her watch, "oh. That's tomorrow."
Ian looked at her. "How did you forget your birthday?" He asked.
Friday ignored him, too busy thanking her Uncle.
"Don't open it until tomorrow."
She nodded.
The Headmaster sighed. "Yes, yes. Happy birthday for tomorrow Friday, but I've had a very long day and id like you all to kindly leave."
He shut the door to his office. Bernie turned back to his niece. "I'll let you get back to whatever it was you were doing." He gave her another hug and the girls began to walk away.
"How can she forget her own birthday?" Ian asked Bernie.
Bernie smiled as he watched Melanie loop her arm through Friday's. "Friday has never really had a birthday. Her family is too busy to pay any attention. She figured that it wasn't worth remembering. I'm the only one who gives her a present and every year she asks what it's for. Every year I have to remind her."
Ian watched Friday turn around. "Hurry up," she called.
Bernie smiled and left, the door shutting behind him.

Now that Mel knew her birthday, she insisted on getting Friday up early, despite her groaning.
"Mel, go back to sleep."
"But it's your birthday. How are you not exited!"
It took Melanie a full 20 minutes to drag Friday out of bed. She handed Friday the small yellow box.
Friday pulled at the paper, smiling when she saw what it was that Bernie had given her. Melanie frowned, "fuzzy socks?"
Friday nodded. "I like to slide down the hallway in fuzzy socks back home. It's a much more fun way to get around."
The girls headed down for breakfast, which went as usual. But no matter how hard she looked, Friday couldn't find Ian anywhere.
"Where did he go?" She asked as she placed a pancake onto her plate.
"I don't know. It's not like Ian to miss out on pancakes."
The school had embraced the idea of Lazy Sundays. Some were still in pjs and even some teachers had pyjama shirts peaking out from their jumpers.
They spent a long time in the dining hall, eating their breakfast and chatting. After a while, they went back to their dorm.
Melanie went straight to sleep and Friday pulled out her copy of Enola Holmes.
That's when she spotted the card on her desk. It hadn't been there earlier when she had least for breakfast. She picked it up, curious.
She flipped it over and opened it, pulling out two pieces of paper. One, was written on card paper and the other on lined, the sort you'd find in a note book. She read the lined paper first
Dear Friday,
Happy birthday.
I didn't know what to get you and I had almost no time so I made the first thing that came to mind.
Oh, that sounds bad, but I did put some thought in I promise.

Even more curious as to what Ian had made, she took the piece of card paper. It had been cut into a neat rectangle and had the words,
Ian, stop being a royal brat
On it. She smiled, thinking of all the times she could have used a sign like this one.
There was a knock on the door. "It's open" she called.
The door was pushed open and Ian stood in the door, pink in the face and looking sheepish.
"You like it?" He asked.
Friday nodded, smiling.
"Yeah, I am a genius when it comes to birthday presents."
Friday found her book. "I see."
"It's a gift, really. I can never be topped. It comes naturally to me."
"Thank you."
"You see, it's almost like I could make it a profession, or a business...Hey!"
He stopped blabbering when he saw that Friday was holding up the card. She shrugged her grin stupid and large. "Oh! It worked! This will be very handy indeed."
