Holding ground

I don't actually know why I wrote this or what the story is meant to be but I just came up with it on the spot and I wanted to write a story where Friday held her ground over Ian.

Also this is when Ian and Friday were still big rivals
_______________

Ian's point of view

Geography had never been an interesting subject for Ian.

He listened as Mr Maclean droned on about something, and let his eyes wander around the room.

Across the class sitting in the chair almost directly opposite him, was Friday.

Her chair had been tipped onto its back legs and she played with her pencil between her fingers.

"Can anybody tell me what percentage of the population lives in the northern hemisphere?" Mr Maclean asked.

Ian turned to look at the teacher. "80 percent."

"It's 90. Not 80." Friday said, looking up.

Ian stared at her, trying to get her to back down, embarrassed he had gotten the answer wrong.

Could she never let anything slide?

Usually she looked away under his gaze, but something seemed to wash over her.

There was a thud as her chair tipped forward onto all four legs and she took one last blink, resting her chin on her hand and staring right back at him.

The entire class was silent, watching them, waiting to see who would crumble first.

Friday had challenged him for the first time.

Ian felt heat rise to his cheeks.

Was this...attractive?

Ian gave himself a mental slap.

In no universe was Friday Barnes attractive. But...

A smile crawled across her lips. She was enjoying this.

Ian desperately wanted to look away. He was getting lost in her brown eyes, but he had to hold his ground.

"What's happening?" Mirabella whispered, her eyes darting back and forth between him and Friday.

Trea shook her head. "I don't know"

Friday brushed a strand of hair from her face, never once looking away.

He could see her pupils were moving slightly, but they always stayed glued to his.

Ian was sure his cheeks were bright red.

He looked away.

Several people gasped and mouths dropped open in shock.

Friday's smile grew as she looked him up and down, tipping her chair back again and looking at a shocked Mr Maclean. "90 percent."

Ian looked at Melanie who raised her eyebrows, her silent way of telling him she knew exactly how attracted to the brunette Ian had been.

He stole one quick look at Friday, not missing the light shade of pink on her cheeks.

Did she feel the same way he did?

Drake put his hand on Ian's shoulder. "I can't believe you caved dude."

Ian smacked his hand away. "Neither can I."
