Here is a little something I whipped up on a car trip cos I didn't have time to finish the whole chapter. Enjoy

Listen to Take You To Hell by Ava Max while you read. You'll see why later.

Ian's perspective

Ian strolled into the kitchen slowly.

Bernie was leaning against the counter with a mug in his hand, reading something on his phone.

"Good morning." He said looking up.

"Is it though?" Ian asked, stretching.

Bernie smirked, "I isn't actually, because it's 1:00pm."

Ian checked his watch. "Huh. So it is. But it's summer holidays so." He shrugged.

Bernie put his mug down. "I guess. Get dressed, we're going to see Friday."

Ian nearly dropped the pastry he had shoved into his mouth.

"Why?"

Bernie grabbed a backpack. "Because Fridays family is utter chaos and they rely heavily on her to do everything. So we're going to go see how she's doing."

Ian nodded and ran back to his room, falling over one of Bella's toys.

He hit the floor, hard, and was met by a small giggle.

"Ugh, ow." He groaned, lifting his head. Bella was sitting by his bedside table, giggling.

Ian scrunched up his face in a playful smile. "Did you do this?" He asked, reaching out to tickle her.

She giggled again.

Ian got dressed, shutting the door to his room to make sure Bella wouldn't crawl in.

She was very curious lately, and more often than not would wander in unannounced.

"Ready?" Bernie asked when Ian slid down the hallway in his socks.

"Yep."

The car ride was long, as Friday lived far from them. Also because Bernie put on old songs from when he was a kid.

The Barnes house was small. One story painted an off white with lots of windows. There were equations written in whiteboard marker on one of them. The garden was kept but a little scraggly.

Water leaked from under the door and down the driveway.

Bernie didn't even knock, just walked in.

Ian stepped in after him, shutting the door.

"Friday." Bernie called. "It's Bernie, Ian's here too."

Take You To Hell by Ava Max was playing through the house and there was a faint sound of running water.

When Bernie said the house was chaotic, that had been an understatement.

The front of the house was an open plan kitchen/living room. Then, a long hallway with lots of doors.

There was a vacuum that had been disassembled on the floor of the kitchen, Petri dishes and graph paper all over the living room and there was water in all of the rooms, rising by the second.

Bernie scanned the house. "Friday?"

He dumped the backpack on the kitchen table, took off his shoes and socks, and splashed through the house into the bathroom.

Ian also took off his shoes and socks, then splashed after him.

Ian looked at the strange scene in front of him.

The tap on the sink was running uncontrollably, overflowing onto the floor and out into the rest of the house. The tap from the sink had been taken apart and the pieces were lying on the counter.

And there, in a baggy grey shirt and shorts, was a very wet Friday.

She was bare foot and the water was up to her ankles.

She had barricaded the door with towels, but Bernie had pulled it open and all the water had rushed out.

Friday was crouched under the bench and was pulling apart the piping.

"Friday! What happened?!" Bernie asked, standing in the doorway.

Friday turned to look at them. Her face was flustered and dirty. "My stupid, stupid parents happened!" She yelled.

She stood up, and jammed a screwdriver into where the handle of the tap went.

She began to twist it, or try to as the screwdriver didn't move at all.

"I'll go check the water tank out the back." Bernie said.

"I already did." Friday grunted. "It's been superglued open. I can't turn that tap either."

Bernie blinked. "So you're telling me that there's no way to turn the water off?"

Friday nodded. She gave up on trying to turn the screwdriver and threw it at the wall.

It didn't make it that far.

Bernie made his way down the hall and out the back door.

"Come with me." Friday said, splashing through the water. "I need you to help me grab all the important stuff from my room before it floods.

Ian went down the hallway with her.

Fridays room was small. Bookshelves lined one wall, a desk and a bed sat on the opposite one. One wall was painted yellow and there were posters of Apollo 11 and the blueprints for the Titanic. She had scribbled notes on how they could have improved it so it hadn't sunk.

Whatever was on the floor was floating in the water.

Friday sighed, and picked up a small stuffed chicken toy. "Sorry about this Mr Multiverse."

She went to the wardrobe and crabbed a crowbar on the way. She jammed it under the lip of the drawer and pulled it open.

She pulled out a sock and stuffed Mr Multiverse into it.

Ian watched from the doorway.

She turned to him shaking her head slightly. "They've done a lot of things that I could clean up, but this...I can't fix this now."

Ian waded through the water towards her and pulled her to him.

She sniffed, then seemed to shake everything off and held her head high. "It's ok, Mr Multiverse is the only thing in here of value, other than the Titanic blueprint," she said, pulling it off the wall.

Ian looked around. There wasn't much in her room. "Are you sure that's it?" He asked.

Friday nodded.

Then she frowned. "Is it me or has the water stopped?"

Ian listened. The water had stoped running.

Friday put the sock with the chicken in it and the blueprint on her bed and ran out of the room.

Ian followed.

And it was a good thing he did because when she turned into the bathroom she slipped.

Ian reached out to grab her but he was pulled down too.

Friday landed on her back in the water and Ian landed on top of her.

"Oh, uh." Ian could feel his cheeks going red.

Friday looked up at him.

Neither of them moved.

"Um." She said. "You're a bit heavy."

Ian was mortified.

He grabbed the hook on the door and pulled himself up, then grabbed Fridays hand and pulled her up too.

Bernie bursts into the bathroom. "So I managed to get the tap to turn and I turned the water off...what happened to you Friday?"

Friday went pink. "Uh, I slipped."

Bernie glanced at Ian. "I see."

They glanced at each other and broke out into laughter. Leaving Bernie very confused.
