Chapter 11: sacrifice

When Cindy woke up she saw that she was on a medical bed with bandages wrapped around her legs and her lower arms, on the side was Ja'far who looked concerned. "You know you're one of the few people I've ever known to ever place others before themselves...it scares me that you do that."

Cindy looked at him sadly, she felt like he was going to break up with her for protecting her niece. When Ja'far stood up he pressed his forehead against hers as he placed a hand on the side of her face. "Please...unless you really have to-don't get yourself involved in anything dangerous. I hate having to worry about what's going to happen to you, you mean so much to me Cindy." He said softly to her

She looked at him with sad eyes before she gave him a slight nod. Ja'far moved away from her slightly before he kissed her on the lips softly.

"I love you Cin, more than you can ever fathom." He said softly to her before he sat down again "The doctor told me you're going to be here for a few days-apparently the damage done to your arms and legs needs time to repair themselves. You can't use them until they do, so working as a teacher is out of the question-and don't worry I already talked to Sinbad about it, he was rather understanding about it all. He's giving you the next few days off. Until you're fully rested and able to move our classes will be combined and I'll have my student teacher help me out with things."

She gave him another slight nod of her head, Ja'far kissed the top of her head softly. "Go and get some rest-you'll need it. I'll be back tomorrow to check up on you."

She gave another nod before he left out, cindy just shut her eyes and tried to sleep-every now and then doctors or nurses would come in would check up on her so she didn't sleep that much. Hospital food didn't really appeal her, what didn't help was that her throat still hurt so she still dealt with the stinging pain from being almost choked to death. The next day while she was just watching TV Natsu came in instead of Ja'far which confused her. Natsu could see the confusion and smiled at her.

"Ja'far is waiting in the waiting room with Nami, I wanted to see for myself how you were doing sis. You didn't have to but you protected and saved my daughter. That means a lot to me that you'd do that, I know I'm not the best father-but I am trying."

Cindy nodded her head and smiled at her younger brother making a heart with her hands. He smiled and made one back. "I love you too big sis, thank you for what you've done. I'm going to make damn fucking sure that woman never gets anywhere near our family. I hate that she's done so much to you just because you've been protecting me and my daughter."

Cindy looked down sadly and nodded her head, Natsu could tell that something was wrong with his sister and sat beside her. "Sis...are you okay?"

She shook her head no before she pointed to her throat and shook her head. When he didn't get what she was trying to tell him she took his phone and typed it out to him.

|The doctor told me earlier today that the damage that was done to my throat may be semi-permanent if that's the case I may never be able to work as a teacher again.|

Natsu's brown eyes widen in utter shock as he saw that she wrote. "N-No way...There has to be something that can be done, does it hurt for you to eat and swallow liquids?"

She nodded her head silently, he sighed out. "Damn...How about breathing?"

She shook her head no before he placed a hand on the side of her face. "I'll figure out something-I'm not having my sister be a mute. I'm not a doctor for nothing Cindy."

She frowned and looked at him sadly, she really hated that protecting her younger brother had made her become the way that she was. It was obvious that the duo wouldn't stop until they got what they wanted, and would do anything to get it. Whether it be legal or not. Natsu knew that cindy was in thought and sat beside her as he placed a hand on her arm softly.

"Listen Cindy, I know that your elder sibling instincts tell you to protect me and Nami at all cost but you need to think about yourself at sometime too. I'm pretty helpless and worthless without you around. I don't know what I'd do without my big sis around. You've literally been the parent that our parents weren't for me. I know I've placed a lot of stress and pressure on you but...but now you need to think about yourself and what your future will entail now that you're in the situation you're in."

Cindy just pulled him into her and hugged him tightly, Natsu gave her a sad smile and hugged her back. "It'll be alright sis...we'll figure something out I promise."
