It was another late night for Jenna Walker. She stood in front of her office window, looking down at the city from the 34th floor. It looked so peacefully from this high up. It was 9:00 on a Tuesday so there wasn't much traffic down below. She loved the city. There was something about the hustle and bustle during the day and the stillness at night. She changed out of her work attire and into a designer sweatsuit. She always kept a lot of different style clothes at her office. She might as well have since she spent so much time there. Take tonight for example. It was well past business hours and she was still doing paperwork. Of course, she wouldn't stay if she didn't want to. She loved her job, her company.
Jenna started her security firm with one main goal: To erase any bad memories associated with her last name. And over the last decade she had done just that.
Her father's death, while investigated, hadn't been a big deal. FBI looked into it and couldn't find out what her dad was doing at a strange facility in the woods of Connecticut. Or better yet, what the facility even was. Her friends had made sure there was nothing left to even venture a guess as to what went on there.
But Jenna knew. And her friends knew. That was enough for her to make it her mission to change how they viewed her. So she created Walker Industries. A security firm that not only was there to protect a helpless wife from an abusive husband, but it also provided protection for some of the most powerful politicians and famous celebrities.
She was at the top of her game. She even appeared in Forbes magazine's richest women under forty issue. Ironic, since she, like all her friends, hadn't aged past the age of twenty-two.
While all the success was great, the thing that made her the most content was that she had won the trust and friendship of ALL of the others.Matt had always told her she was one of them from the beginning, but she knew she needed to do more. So over the years she worked hard on her personal relationships and was there when they needed her. And she was there for them.
She did get lonely from time to time. Something she would temporarily fix with an occasional one night stand with some random guy at a bar. None of them meant anything to her though. She vowed she would never fall in love again. She did that once before, then he died. Shaun. He was the love of her life. She wouldn't put herself through that again. No one ever told you how hard it was to lose the me you loved.
Her grief is all she has left of him. So she'll hold onto it for as long as she has to.
Gavin and Sam were her two best security personnel, obviously. Having two Chosen Ones on the payroll was an enormous perk. It was like having two of the deadliest people in the world looking out for your clients. On top of that, Tyler, the most gifted human being in the world worked part time for her, along with his girlfriend Sierra.
They were all family now, spending much of their free time together over the past thirteen years. Casey and Shannon had become her best friends. Who would have ever thought that?
She looked down at her cell phone at all the mixed texts from Matt and Casey. They were worried. Jenna didn't worry so much. She knew Sam, and she knew even though Sam could be reckless, she had Gavin to look out for her.
Still, she texted them both back.
MATT: CHECKING ON THEM WHEN I LEAVE OFFICE. STOP WORRYING 😘CASEY: IM SURE THEY'RE FINE. CANT WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE ❤️
A noise from across the room got her attention. She looked up and noticed a figure standing in the shadows against the wall in her office.
"We're closed." She said.
The figure moved a step closer, still not saying a word, an immediate red flag.Jenna had dealt with the occasional disgruntled customer. This one however, had a different feel.
"I said we're closed. Come back in the morning."
The old security guard in the lobby, Boyd, would have never let anyone up after hours. A second red flag. Whoever this was had snuck up here unseen."Oh, I'm not the one who needs protection." Came a man's voice.
Jenna stayed calm. There wasn't anyone out there that she knew of that she couldn't handle. Still, with Sam and Gavin unresponsive it definitely raised suspicion. She texted Matt:
PROBLEM AT MY OFFICE"Why are you here then?" She asked him.
The man stepped out of the shadows. He was young, probably around eighteen to twenty. He had short blonde hair and was dressed casual, wearing blue jeans and a plain gray hoodie."I'm here to tell you that you are not going to be making it home tonight." He threatened, in the most calm voice.
Jenna in response calmly tied her hair back. If he truly knew her, he would know that meant he was in for a hell of a fight."Oh yeah? What makes you think that?" She replied.
"Because I'm going to kill you." He simply stated.
"Who are you?" She asked.
Jenna pressed the record button on her cell phone and hid it in the secret compartment of her desk. A spot only a few knew."Oh, your friends are going to find out exactly who I am." He said, taking a few more steps toward her.
She slowly opened her top drawer, revealing her 9mm.
"I don't think you want to fuck with them." Jenna told him. "Where are you from?""Oh I'm from many places and I speak many languages." He said.
"You sound like you're from Jersey." Jenna replied. She wanted to kill this man and her patience was running thin.He laughed. "Have you checked on Gavin and Sam recently? They didn't put up much of a fight."
Jenna's blood started to boil and her heart raced. This proved that Gavin and Sam were in fact not responding for a reason. And that reason was right in front of her."What did you do to them?" She asked as she quietly put the gun in her right hand.
"You won't be around to find out. Consider yourself lucky. You're going to get off easy." He said, smugly.
"Who are you?" She asked again.
She already knew this man was a legitimate threat.
"I'm just like Tyler. Only....... let's just say a little more evil." He added with a menacing smile."You know who I am?" She asked.
"Jenna Walker. Daughter of a disgraced billionaire. A man who was so delusional it ended up costing him his life. You see, if he would have stuck to creating hideous creatures in his dungeon he probably would have lived longer." The young man said."How do you know us?" Jenna asked. She was stalling.
"I know everything."
"Then you would know you were dead the minute you walked through the door."She drew her gun and fired at him.
