Matt pulled up to the small opening of the woods only few knew about. For a moment none of them spoke. Shannon got out first. She was the bait. She was filled with nervousness, fear, and the need for revenge. Her job would be to lure Gabriel and his men into the woods, who would undoubtedly be patrolling the streets of Maple Brook looking for the Chosen Ones.Phil kissed her. "Please be careful."
She nodded. There would be no sarcastic comments from her tonight, no bragging or showing off.
"I will." She replied, kissing him back. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
She tightened her vest then hugged Sierra. "I'll see you in there. Love you, sis."
Sierra fought back the urge to cry. "Stay alive, please."After nodding to Matt and Casey, Shannon took off walking down the street, hands in her pockets. She could see her breath in the cold night air. Her friends watched her until she turned the corner and was out of sight.
"Gear up." Matt told everyone.
"I can't wait for this shit." Sam said with excitement.
Gavin smiled. "Relax, would ya?"Casey had to chuckle at her friend. She once remembered her as the shy sixteen year old girl from the Nest. Now she was a beautiful, blonde deadly assassin. But she's still her unofficial little sister in her eyes.
"Keep your emotions in check in there." Casey told her.
Sam grinned. "Oh, you know me."Tyler handed Sierra an assault rifle. She was shaking. He put his hands on her shoulders. "You already fought him, you know what to expect. Just stay by my side, okay?"
She nodded. He couldn't tell now if she was shivering from the cold or out of fear. He kissed her forehead."Let's go." Matt said, leading the way through the narrow entrance the trees provided.
Shannon walked at a brisk pace. As confident as she was, she was still anxious. Not only did she need to get the attention of Gabriel's men, she needed to lure them to the right spot where Matt, Tyler and the rest of her friends would be waiting.
She saw a car coming towards her in the distance. Shit! She thought. She wasn't near the spot where she needed to enter the woods. She needed to move faster. The car sped up. Shannon continued to walk towards it. As it came closer she could hear laughing and screaming coming from it. The car didn't even slow down as it sped past her. Two teenage boys yelled something crude to her as they drove by. False alarm.
"Assholes." She whispered to herself.
She walked faster. Another car was coming towards her now. This one from behind her. She turned to see it slowing down. A white van. It's lights so bright she couldn't see anyone inside. She turned and continued to walk as it came to a stop on the opposite side of the road. That's when she heard the side door of the van slide open."That's her!" A man yelled.
Shannon darted into the woods.
