Dreamily, you stare at your crush. He's just adorable. He's tall and skinny. Blue hair and eyes. Pointy, little elf ears. Pale complexion. Sharp features. Gorgeous, really. You've known him since you were just a kid, way back when your big brother brought him home. At the time, Togata was always the type to make friends, and so the appearance of Tamaki Amajiki was normal. You were six and he was eight.
He was the quiet type. New people scared him, and that included you. He couldn't get a word out in front of you, but you're just like your brother when it comes to friendliness. Needless to say, you got all up in his face and startled him to the point that he passed out. To this day, you'd like to say that you're friends with him. He's really close with your brother, so you always see him. And you talk to him, too. Do you always get a full response? Not really. But that's okay. You don't mind too much. He's just shy is all. It's just that he has a girl best friend. Whom he's close with. And is super pretty. But Togata is always telling you that they're just friends, and your big brother would never lie to you.
Right?
Anyway, you're in your living room, eyes glues to the beautiful boy who's friends with your brother. They're eating sandwiches that you made. That's one of the only things you can actually make. Beside a few things that don't involve the stove, you can't cook. One time, you went to make ramen, but then burnt the water. The noodles were cooked on the outside and raw on the inside. The egg wasn't even an egg, either. Since that day, your mom banned you from the kitchen.
"Y/n," says Togata. "The sandwiches are great. Good job!"
Thanks. If there's one thing I can do, its making sandwiches."
S- salad," Tamaki mutters. "That rarely involves a stove...
"No," you reply. "I usually cut myself when chopping vegetables."
Togata says, "Which is why she's rarely allowed in the kitchen and only with supervision"
"I know," Tamaki answers Which is why I was scared of eating this sandwich."
"It's not that bad!" you shout as you stand up. "I can make a sandwich! Geez, Tamaki. Tell me how you really feel."
"Well," he starts off. "Your non-existent cooking skill terrify me, you're loud and a bit obnoxious, sometimes you get stressful and worrisome because you're most likely to set a forest fire because you're clumsy and-"
"Yeah," you say. "I get it"
Irritated, you stomp upstairs to your room. That was mean. So what, you're a bit clumsy? He didn't have to say it like that. Blunt jerkwad. Sighing, you realize that it can't be helped. Your crush is all one-sided. He'd never like a girl like you.
You're short and you're chu bby and your grades are average and you're just beneath average. You're even quirkless. He's meant for someone like that Nejire girl. She's cute and talented. Sweet, too. And you're sure that she's talented in the kitchen. Just everything that you're not.
f only you were better. Maybe then he'd like you. There's nothing you can do, either. You're doomed to be this way.
Sighing again, you stand up and go to the bathroom, where you wash your face. Though you want to cry right now, you won't. You're not supposed to. You're bubbly and happy. You're not supposed to cry. Not at all.
Staring in the mirror, you frown deeply. All that acne. It makes you want to tear that skin up. And that chubby face, too.
If only you looked like Nejire Hado. She's so pretty. If only. If only you were actually pretty. And don't they say the fastest way to a man's heart is through his stomach? You already flunked that.
Shaking your head, you walk out of the bathroom, then bump into someone. Looking up, you find that it's Tamaki. His face is bright red and so is yours. He may be adorable, but he's also so hot. Some days, you swear that it's not a crush but love. But what does that matter? You'll never have him anyway.
"S- sorry," he mutters.
"It's fine," You start to walk off.
"W- wait," You turn around. "I'm sorry, alright? I- I didn't mean to- to insult you or any- anything." He doesn't look you in the eye. "You- you're a great girl."
And just like that, he runs off. Still a bit sad, you shake your head. You're not a great girl. He probably just felt bad. Still, you force a smile on your face and walk to your room. Once inside, you slump to the floor, back against the door. Every interaction with him makes it worse. It makes you want him even more. It's always the things you can never have that you want. That's just how life works.
Later on that night, your brother comes barging into your room. He sees you curled into a ball on your bed, holding your octopus stuffed animal that makes you think of Tamaki. A bit oblivious, he tilts his head to the side and sits on the edge of your bed.
"What do you want, Togata?" you ask, not wanting to be bothered.
"Are you okay? You seem upset."
"Nejire is really pretty, isn't she?"
"Yeah? I'd say she's pretty"
"And I bet Tamaki likes pretty girls, right?"
"Well he is male and most guys like girls that they find pretty."
"Yeah... I figured as much."
"Are you okay? What's with all these questions?"
"It's nothing. Just... go away."
"Y/n, pushing me away won't fix it, you know."
"I don't care. Leave me alone."
Tamaki wouldn't like seeing you down like this."
"Well, thats Tamaki's problem."
"You like him, right?"
"No"
"Don't lie-"
"I love him."
"So... when do you plan to tell him?"
At that, you laugh. "'Never. He'll reject me."
"No, he won't."
"Just go away! What do you know?"
"That Tamaki is totally in love with you." He tilts his head to the side.
"You're even dumber than you look. Now leave. I wanna be alone for awhile."
"Fine. Be that way." He stands up. "I'll leave if that's what you really want"
He walks out, and you scream into a pillow. This is so frustrating. You just want Tamaki. That's all you want. But you'll never have him. He'll just be the same old Tamaki. Your brother's best friend. You would tell yourself that he's at least your friend, but you know better. He doesn't even like you.
Then, a tear falls. There it is. You finally broke. You sob on the plush, soaking it with your tears What's the point in crying? What's the point when it won't change anything? You're not supposed to be this way. You're supposed to be okay.
You have to be. So why aren't you? Why aren't you okay?
"Mph!"
You get pushed against a wall in the girls' bathroom. The bullies are bored. Of course, it's you they have to mess with.
You're "fat" and "ugly:' Naturally you're their target. Right? It's a crime to look the way that you do. Still, you take it, forcing a smile on your face the whole time. Nobody can see you at your weakest. Just take the beating and it'll eventually end.
That's how it works, right?
Right?
When you get home, you go straight upstairs. You and your brother go to different high schools, so he doesn't know about the bullying. Today, you have a black eye. Togata can't see it. That'd be awful.
Then, someone knocks on your door. You begin to situate yourself to that a stuffed animal hides the black eye. Then, you call out, "Come in!" The door opens, revealing Tamaki.
"H- hey" he says. "Y- your brother wants to kn- know if you- you're hungry."
"Nope." You close your non-swollen eye. "Ate a big lunch." That's a lie. You actually skipped lunch.
"D- do you want a drink?"
"I'm good. Thanks."
"Are- are you mad at me?" he blurts out, then he covers your face. "Of course, you are. I screwed up. l- what I said-I'm so sorry! P- p-please, don't be mad! I- I didn't mean it like that and- and- and-"
"It's fine" you say. "I'm just tired."
"No. Something's wrong. I can t- tell."
"It's fine. Go hang out with my brother."
"Why are you hiding half your face?"
"I told you. I'm fine-"
"Please, stop lying. I- I don't like being lied to-"
"Tamaki, it's nothing for you to worry about."
Don't say that..." He sits in front of your bed. "Whats going on? You can tell me."
"I can't. I'm not- I'm not supposed to be weak-" He touches your cheek, causing you to stop.
"That's not weak. What's going on? And sit up. Come on."
"But...you can't see."
"It's fine. Go on." You sit up, and you see him gasp a bit. "What happened?"
"The girls at school. They're a bit mean, y'know?"
"Oh, my...I'm so sorry-"
"It's fine. Just don't say anything to Togata. He'll flip out and I don't want that."
"You can't hide it forever, you know."
"I can try-"
"No, you can't."
"When'd you get so talkative?" His face turns a bright red.
"S- sorry. I just-I got worried and-and I-"
"It's fine. I just... I hate talking about these things."
"You can always talk to me. I'm here."
"I'm not your responsibility. I'm obnoxious, remember? You-"
"I didn't mean it that way! I admire how brave you are! You- you're so good at talking to people and- and you're brave and l- you're amazing, okay? So don't think that about yourself!"
"It's true though, right? I'm loud and crazy. But hey. Because of that, you'd never know that I'm getting bullied or anything. Or that I'm heartbroken or-" When you realize what you said, you stopped.
"H-h-heartbroken? D- did someone r-r- reject you?"
"No, but... it's obvious he doesn't like me back. But let's move on-"
"Then he's an idiot. I promise you that."
"T- Tamaki, just drop it-"
"B- but it makes you s-s- sad. You- you can't be sad-"
"Its okay. I'm used to it-"
"Then don't be! You- you shouldn't be used to that!" His face may be red, but it's determined. He's set on making you feel better. No matter what.
"Tamaki. Just stop."
"No. Whoever this guy is, he-"
"It's you! I swear! You're as dense as a brick wall!"
He blinks several times. Him? You like him? Seriously? How? You're so beautiful! How could he get such a wonderful person to like him? That's not possible. He's dreaming. He has to be. It can't be real. That's not possible. No. It's just not.
"So," you continue. "Just shut up. Stop calling your own self an idiot and stop talking about it. I just wanna forget it already. I already know that you don't like me and-"
"W-what?" He's stunned. "Don't like you? I've always liked you. You're amazing and- and l just- I could never- I could never even imagine being lucky enough to- to have you and-"
"That's just stupid! I'd be the lucky one!"
A bit irritated, he goes, "No! I'd be lucky!"
"Well then let's both be lucky and be together!"
"Fine then!"
Still a bit high-strung, you climb off the bed, grab him, and slam your lips onto his. He just lets it happen, paralyzed.
Meanwhile, you just deepen the kiss, wanting to savor every second. He's yours. He's really yours and you have to make the best of every moment. You just have to.
Puling away, you whisper, "I love you-" He passes out, and your eyebrow twitches. He's way to shy for his own good. Sighing, you move him so that his head is in your lap. Gently, you pet his hair, and then plant a kiss on his forehead. Right then, Togata bursts into your room, wanting to know where Tamaki has been. Seeing what's happening, he just grins and walks back out.
