"Hey, Hazel, can you make the popcorn? You're so much better at it than me," Casey said from her place in the kitchen.

I groaned, getting up from the couch. "I guess so," I said dramatically. "But that means we're watching my pick of the movies tonight."

"But that means it'll all be scary movies," she pouted. "I wanted to watch a romance tonight."

I laughed, shaking my head as I pulled out the Jiffy Pop. "Don't you have enough romance with Steve?"

She shrugged, leaning against the counter. "We had a fight earlier."

I frowned at this, just now realizing why she called me over on a school night. As much as I can't stand her quarterback boyfriend- especially not after that one party - I know she really loves him, and I want her to be happy. "I'm sorry Case, I guess we can watch a romance." She looked up at me happily before I said, "But first, horror!"

She shook her head with a chuckle, going into the living room to assess the tapes we picked up at Blockbuster earlier this evening.

The phone rang while I got the stove turned on, putting the popcorn over the burner.

"Hello?" I heard Casey answer the phone. "Who are you trying to reach?" I shrugged, figuring it to be a wrong number, and drowned out the conversation.

She walked back into the kitchen, carrying a stack of VHS tapes. Just then, the phone rang again. She grabbed the portable and said, "Hello?" She looked up at me at his response and shook her head as she dramatically rolled her eyes. "Why'd you dial it again?"

I turned back to the popcorn, giving it a shake. "Well you're forgiven, bye now." I heard a gruff voice on the other end say something frantically but was too far from the phone to know what it was. "What?" Casey asked, walking over to the sliding glass door, and peering out into her backyard. "They've got 900 numbers for that. See ya."

She came back, placing the phone on the island. "What was that about?" I asked.

"Some wrong number," she shrugged.

The phone rings again and she picks it back up. "Hello? Who is this?"

She leaned back against the island as I could faintly hear them say, "You tell me your name and I'll tell you mine."

I rolled my eyes as she just giggled, "I don't think so." I turned back to the popcorn, shaking it a bit more as it finally started popping. "Popcorn...uh huh." I looked back at her and she grinned, getting closer so I could hear them. "My friend and I are about to watch a video."

"Really? What movie?" the man on the phone asked.

"Uhm, just some scary movie," she shrugged as I rolled my eyes.

"Do you like scary movies?" he asked.

She laughed, "A little. But my friend loves them."

"What's your favorite scary movie?" he asked and I snorted at his pathetic attempt to flirt.

"Uh Halloween, I guess," she shrugged.

I turned back around, gazing out the window as I grew bored of the conversation. I could have sworn I saw something move in the shadows but Casey's giggling gained my attention. "Why? You wanna ask me out?"

"Maybe. Do you have a boyfriend?" he asked.

"No." Casey winked and I rolled my eyes, deciding to leave her to her ways. Obviously, she's seeking some male attention after whatever happened with Steve.
