After the movie, he drove me home, talking about our thoughts on the movie the whole way. As we pulled up to my house, I gave him a grin. "Thanks for today Ran. It was a lot of fun."

"Of course, I had a fun time, too."

We both smiled at each other until I looked away, suddenly feeling a little awkward. "Well, I guess I'll see you at school tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow Hazel."

I got out, giving him a wave before going up onto the porch and getting out my house key. I walked inside, locking the door behind me as I dropped my backpack by the door.

I sighed, wishing I didn't have to come home to an empty house all the time. I know mom is just trying to take care of us, especially since dad left, but I just wish she could be home more.

I went into the kitchen, looking through the fridge for something to drink, when I heard a thump from upstairs. I froze, my hand in the air as I was reaching for a can of pop.

I slowly closed the refrigerator door as I heard shuffling from my bedroom. "Fuuuck," I whispered, feeling my heartbeat getting faster. I took a step away, my back hitting the island.

I jumped as the phone started to ring. I looked at where it was sitting on the island counter beside me. I didn't hear anything else from upstairs and debated on picking up the phone.

It could be Sidney, or Mom, and I could tell them about hearing someone. Or it could be the killer again. The phone rang again, and I ran my hand through my hair. "Shit." I grabbed the phone, clicking the answer button as I put it up to my ear. "Hello?"

"Hazel, took you a while to answer me." I squeezed my eyes shut. I definitely shouldn't have answered.

I took in a shaky breath and grabbed a kitchen knife from the block. "Yeah, well, you can't blame me for not wanting to pick up the phone," I said, trying to lighten my mood.

He chuckled. "No, no, I understand. But it does hurt my feelings. I thought we had a connection."

I scoffed, shaking my head. "A connection? Yeah, I guess we're some sort of deranged phone pals."

"Oh, Hazel, we're so much more than that." His words sent shivers down my spine.

"Yeah, then what are we, huh?" I started to walk around, trying to make sure my doors and windows were locked.

"You know, deep down, what we are. You just don't want to accept it."

"Right. Well, it was nice talking to you again, but I've really got to go now."

"Don't hang up on me!" he exclaimed, making me jump.

"Or what? You'll kill me?" I asked, mentally kicking myself for trying to be brave. "You said yourself I was your final girl."

He hummed and I could hear the smirk in his voice as he said, "Darling, I don't have to kill you. I can think of plenty of other things I can do to you."

I leaned my head against the wall, lightly hitting it. I am so stupid. Why did I answer this phone?

"Right. Right. I-I could only imagine what sick things that entails." I tried to buy time as I walked closer to the front door, flicking the lock just as I heard another thump from upstairs. "But I've really got to go."

"Wait!" I hung up, swinging the door open just as I heard someone running down the stairs.

I slammed the door shut behind me and turned in time to see him in that mask coming down the stairs.
