The next morning, I woke up, not surprised to see Stu gone. He probably went home to get ready for school. I got ready quickly before going downstairs, grabbing a banana for breakfast. The phone rang and I grabbed it quickly, hoping it didn't wake my mom up.

"Hello?" I said, holding the phone between my ear and shoulder as I packed my school books into my backpack.

"Hey Haze, you wanna ride to school? Dewey's taking us," Tatum said.

"Sure, thank you."

"Of course, we will be there soon."

"See you," I said, hanging up and making my way outside, locking the door behind me.

Only a few minutes passed before Dewey's police car pulled up. I rushed off the porch, getting into the back beside Sid. "Good morning Hazel," Dewey greeted me.

"Morning guys. Thanks for picking me up."

"Of course," Sid gave me a small smile.

I glanced at her for a moment before leaning up and looking at Dewey. "Have you heard anything about Billy?"

"Yeah, the phone records were clean. They let him go this morning."

I smiled, and Sidney spoke up. "The killer called me again last night."

I gasped, looking at her with wide eyes. "He did? What did he say?"

"That Billy is innocent, and that I blamed the wrong guy. Again." I frowned, realizing they were referring to Cotton Weary, the man Sidney said was the one who killed her mother.

"Whoever this is, he's a sick freak," Tatum said just as we arrived at the school. We looked out at the reporters in disdain. I wish they'd leave everyone alone.

"Don't worry guys, it's school. You'll be safe here," Dewey said as we got out of the car.

As soon as Sid and I got out of the back, microphones were pushed in our faces. "Sidney! How does it feel to be almost murdered, like your mother?"

"Hazel! Do you think you're the killer's next target after getting away that night?"

I winced at this, and Dewey jumped out of the car, telling the reporters to back off. "Come on guys," Tatum said and Sidney stopped.

"Give me a second," Sid said, eyeing the news van for Gale Weathers before walking away.

"I'll meet you guys inside," I said, not wanting to deal with any drama that came with Gale being around.

"Okay, later," Tatum said, rushing after Sid.

I made my way inside, stopping at my locker. Suddenly Stu was by my side. "Good morning, sunshine," he grinned, leaning down and pecking my cheek.

"Hey Stu, when did you leave this morning?" I asked, pulling books out of my locker.

"Uh, early, not sure the exact time, ya know?" he chuckled.

"I want you to meet me here right after class, okay?" Tatum said as she and Sidney approached. Stu and I turned to them, just as we saw Billy walk in through the front doors.

"What is he doing here?" Tatum asked as she opened a lollipop.

"Uh, going to school?" Stu said in a duh tone.

Sidney sighed. "I bet he's pissed at me."

"You mean after you branded him the Candyman?" Stu laughed, giving me a wink.

"Stu!" Tatum snapped just as someone ran down the hall dressed in that damn mask, causing both Sidney and I to jump back.

"Why are they doing this?" Sid frowned.
