The alarm rang at 5 a.m., dragging me out of sleep. I groaned, got out of bed, and headed to the gym. I'm not the kind of guy who spends hours working out, but I like to maintain my physique. And I'd say I've done a damn good job, considering how girls throw themselves at me—ogling, or more accurately, eye-f*cking me.
By 7 a.m., I was done with my workout, took a quick shower, and got ready for the day.
As I descended the stairs, I was greeted with cheerful faces. The usual. And there I was, grumpy as ever. I greeted everyone with a dry "Good morning" before sitting down at the dining table, noticing my cousins grinning. It was clear the news had already reached them. I smirked and sat down, waiting for the inevitable conversation.
"Princess, did you hear the right news?" Naksh asked Shreya, trying to hide his smirk.
Shreya raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Wow, Bhai, instead of calling me 'kiddo' or annoying me, you actually called me 'princess.' This is rare."
Their bickering was non-stop and honestly, amusing. But did I laugh? No. I had long forgotten how. Ever since she ruined everything, I had erased any trace of happiness from my life. That girl, Riddhima Malhotra, was the reason my brother was gone. And today, everything was finally falling into place. My revenge was nearing its peak.
"You don't like it when I show you respect, huh? Izzat sabko raas nahi aati," Naksh teased, throwing a wink her way.
(Not everyone can handle respect)
Shreya was the heart of this family, the light in all our lives. She was soft-hearted, gentle—a true angel. And we, the three devils—Naksh, Agastya, and I—were always ready to protect her from this filthy world.
Naksh could be a ray of sunshine, but cross him and he'd turn ruthless. Like the time some poor idiot proposed to Shreya in college, and Naksh beat the life out of him. By the time I found out, the guy was already in the hospital. Naksh had been grinning like he'd won a trophy.
Then there's Agastya. He's like me—cold, introverted, only speaking when necessary. The only difference between us is that I wasn't always like this. I used to be a sunshine boy too, before she destroyed everything.
Shreya, with her usual playful innocence, whined, "Bhaiyas, won't you tell him something? Seems like you both don't love me anymore."
One look from me and Agastya, and Naksh knew to shut up. He wasn't about to test his luck with us.
Shreya then dropped the bomb, "Yes, I heard the news. The Malhotras sent an alliance for Ayaan Bhaiya."
That's when my mother chimed in. "Beta, what do you think about the alliance? I think it's time for you to settle down. You're 28 now. I'm not forcing you, but just give it a chance, okay?"
Everyone—Dad, Chacha, Chachi—nodded in agreement, waiting for my response. I hated seeing my family beg, especially over something like this.
"Maa, don't say please. You know I hate it when you do that. I'm okay with the alliance."
