The long tunnel that stared back at Darcy was dank and reeked of chemicals and sewage. Pipes of various sizes lined the walls, and she forced herself not to think about what they carried inside. There were no indicators of whether she was still in aboveground, underground, in a building, or even in Beacon Hills anymore.
Fear caused her heart to race as she stepped forward, eyes roaming the walls for any answers. The breaths coming out of her mouth clouded in the cool air and goosebumps rose on the exposed skin of her legs and arms. For someone who usually ran hot, her body temperature had dropped from fear and the air. The cool only added to the strange feeling swirling in the pit of her stomach.
She took another step forward, ears straining.
Nothing sounded from down the tunnel in front of her, so she took another step and then another until she was jogging, searching for a way out.
Darcy reached a fork in the tunnel moments later, and she suddenly stopped, panting softly. Her mind was abruptly blank as she tried to think of which way to go. Before she could choose right or left, she heard voices to her right, barely audible under the dripping of water and the fast beating of her heart. Her body tensed, her ears straining to hear more, but they were too muddled. She stepped forward and craned her head closer to listen.
Just as she'd caught some clear words, something slammed into her from behind and sent her sprawling to the ground. She barely managed to turn onto her back before someone sat on her. She frowned in confusion at the boy above her, his familiar face turned up in a snarl.
"What are you doing?!" Darcy questioned, fear making her voice high.
Noah Patrick answered by swinging a fist at her face. She threw up her arms to block him, but his attack suddenly turned from bony fists to sharp claws. Darcy cried out in pain as the skin on her arm was sliced open. Her fight or flight response took over and she shoved his hands away to punch him in the face. He yelped and fell off of her, clutching at his now bleeding nose.
Darcy stood as fast as she could, almost slipping on the damp floor, while he writhed on the ground in pain. It took Noah another second before he scrambled to his feet. The two of them faced each other. She felt her eyes glow yellow, and his only response was to growl and charge at her.
She was ready for it this time and grabbed him, redirecting his momentum past her. The throw would've sent him into the opposing tunnel wall, but an unsuspecting Stiles walking in the way stopped him. She couldn't do anything as Noah collided with Stiles and sent him careening into the wall behind him.
Darcy raced after them but skidded to a stop when Malia stuck out a hand in front of her. She looked up at the werecoyote, eyes wide.
"What are you doing here?" they asked at the same time, one worried and the other annoyed.
