The sun had gone down since Darcy entered her apartment previously, taking the day's warmth with it, but the goosebumps on her arms weren't from the cold.
She hesitated on the other side of the door, hand on the door handle, unsure if she should take that next step and cross over. She could turn back, tell Alexa she did need a ride, and not face the boy who waited for her just down the sidewalk. Though that was the easier option, it wouldn't scratch that itch of curiosity in her brain, the one that was currently winning her internal battle.
Taking a sharp breath in, she opened the door and pushed forward. Her arms moved to cross across her chest as she made her way down the suddenly very long sidewalk. Every step brought her closer to the boy that made her heart race in her chest and usually left her mind whirring in confusion after they'd conversed.
Finally, she stopped.
Theo cocked his head at her rigid stance. "Fancy meeting you here."
Everything about him was relaxed. His arms hung loosely from where his hands were tucked into his jeans pockets. His heart beat nice and slow in his chest and he smelled of that signature scent- mint and pine. His eyes easily met Darcy's- that familiar green-blue, pupils wide from the lack of a decent streetlight.
"What do you want?" She asked, fighting to keep her voice disinterested. She kept expecting to see ill intent in his gaze, yet there was nothing of the sort. A sort of relief went through her at the sight, but then she had to remind herself that that was what he wanted her to see. He had carefully crafted hundreds of masks over the years, and she had not yet learned all of them.
"I came to tell you something." His response was languid- like he had all the time in the world to tell her, like he knew she'd listen.
"Well, I'm uneager to hear it," she replied drily.
At this, he smirked and leaned forward, hands still in his pockets. At this angle, they were the same height, yet somehow he still managed to tower over her. He said, "Are you sure? It might help you and Scott."
Something inside her howled in annoyance at him. She bared her teeth and stepped right up to him. "I'm sure, and I know damn well we don't need the help of someone who put Lydia in a coma and then used her as leverage to get to Parrish."
The smirk fell from his face, but nothing about the look on his face now- serious, daunting- made her feel victorious. "Big things are coming, Darcy, and your pack-" he spit the word out like it disgusted him- "needs all the help it can get, no matter what side it comes from, so..." He straightened. "I suggest you get in the truck."
Darcy struggled for a moment before saying, "No."
Theo's gaze darkened. "Get in the truck," he urged, voice dangerously low, "and I'll tell you what I saw in the mask."
