Darcy could only stare at Stiles, baffled by the sudden turn of events. Anxiety, which had been steadily brewing in her stomach up until this point, had taken hold of her body with a vicious grip. If they couldn't get past this stupid door, then their entire plan fell to pieces and they had no luck in getting Lydia out
"Where's the card reader?" Stiles asked out loud as if they would have an answer. He continued, "It should be here. It has to be here."
"They must have taken it out when the Dread Doctors got through," Scott replied, equally as shocked. Darcy turned to look at him incredulously.
"So we set ourselves up basically," she said in disbelief.
He locked gazes with her. "But we didn't know they'd take out the card reader."
"Are you telling me," Sitles interjected loudly, "that we came all the way down here just to be stopped by an ordinary key?" He looked from the door where the card reader should've been to the other three watching him then back to the empty space. "Are you kidding me?"
Liam surprised them all by saying, "We don't need a key. Not if we can break it down."
Scott, Darcy, and Stiles shared a look, their faces a mix of anxiety and reluctance. After a moment of hesitance, Darcy decided that it was worth a shot. There were three werewolves here that, when combining their strengths, could maybe take down the steel door.
Once Stiles nodded his approval, the three of them huddled closer to the door and started to pry at the metal.
It didn't take long for them to understand that their efforts were in vain. The door had barely budged when Darcy slid her arm across her forehead, wiping away the sweat that had quickly gathered there from her efforts. While they kept trying, Stiles graciously reminded them of the time they didn't have. Since they weren't doing much anyway, the three of them fell away from the door.
"We can't. The Mountain Ash. It's too much," Scott panted out.
Darcy struggled to control her breathing. She pushed out, "And it's too much for me to do alone." She put her weight on one foot and leaned her head in one hand, running through scenarios that would help. She sighed and let her hand fall away when she came up empty-handed.
"Hit me."
Darcy looked away from where her gaze had fallen on the opposing hall through the door's bars to Liam, who had a determined look on his face. It took her a moment to process his words and who they were directed to. Still, she was confused, and she wasn't the only one as Scott and Stiles shared the same look.
"What?" the alpha asked when he realized Liam's gaze was settled on him.
"Hit me," Liam repeated, sounding even more sure of himself. "I'll get angry then I'll get stronger."
