After catching up with Mason and Liam, Darcy told them what she saw, how Corey had left with Theo. Neither of them had been thrilled to hear this news, but on the brighter side, they'd somewhat convinced Liam to apologize or just talk to Scott. It wasn't easy to bring up the fact that Liam had tried to kill the alpha, because with it came the harsh reminder that Darcy had died while it was happening. She'd stayed out of the conversation mostly, save for a few smart remarks.

When they were done at the school, Darcy finally got to go home, and once she'd thanked Mason for the ride, she came to the harsh realization that she still had homework to do.

Dragging her feet up the stairs to her apartment, she cursed at the weight of her backpack that seemed to slow her down. It was laden with books and papers, all of them waiting in anticipation to be worked on.

The door to the apartment swung open in front of Darcy and she forced herself through the doorway. Though she had homework on her mind, she still noticed Alexa's absence. The woman's perfume lingered along with the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and there were no other sounds in the apartment, just the hum of the air conditioner and the groan of wind from the open window in the living room.

Darcy toed her shoes off and then headed to the kitchen to grab a protein bar and a bottle of water for supper. Tearing open the wrapper with her teeth, she made her way over to her bedroom.

The door was propped open, revealing a shadowed room, and she quickly turned on the lights, even though she knew no one was there. Her backpack was thrown onto the floor near her desk and the water was placed on the surface above it. Working on the first bite of her protein bar, she sat down to get started on her homework.

It took her a little over three hours to finish it.

With a final sigh, Darcy placed down her pencil and leaned back. Her werewolf healing meant she didn't experience any hand cramping or eye strain, but it didn't affect the brain fog that came after staring at words on paper for so long. She sighed again and straightened in her chair- she needed a shower.

It felt like forever since she'd had a decent one, not just a three-minute cold one to scrub the first layer of grime from her skin, too tired to do much else. The water burned just this side of hot, and she couldn't help but sigh as it hit her skin. She tilted her head back, letting the water run through her hair and cascade over her scalp.

Darcy stepped out and wrapped a towel around herself a good ten minutes later. She crossed the hall to her bedroom but froze outside of the room's closed door.

Someone was in her room.

She could hear their heartbeat, a calm badum-badum, like they weren't currently breaking and entering. Darcy inhaled sharply, taking a quiet step forward. She was scared at first, frightened at the idea of having to fight a burglar, but then she caught it: the smell of mint and pine buried beneath the scent of her air freshener (Hawaiian breeze). The fear swiftly turned to anger.
