Name: Phoenix

Powers: fire, immortality, resurrection

Description: a fiery bird with a wide wingspan and gold, red, and orange plumage

Mythology Origins: Greek and Roman legends

Other: The phoenix is most commonly known for its immortality. Once it dies, the ashes of its past life are swept away to make room for the new hatchling that caws for a mother. When it realizes there isn't one to nurture it, it flies on by itself.

...During its many lives, the job of the phoenix is simple: protect and save. But one cannot do this with just wings and a beak.

The phoenix is associated with flame, the burning of the sun. Fire, usually known for destruction, assists the bird on its journey to preserve lives, to save those who can't save themselves. The phoenix itself is almost a juxtaposition. How can fire save? Well, if you remember correctly, fire is also used for warmth and can be a symbol of passion, love, and wisdom. The phoenix carries its flames like a golden laurel and lets them burn bright so everyone can see what the bird represents.

...When the phoenix can no longer fly after a life filled with protecting and saving, it reaches its end in a ball of flame. Arguably, this part of its journey could be more important than when it was actually alive. Its power of regeneration symbolizes new life, new beginnings, the promise that anything can be reborn. Hope and second chances are born from the ashes of its past life, along with the promise that the phoenix will fly and start the journey all over again.

Passage written by: an anonymous enthusiast, 1919

-

It was only the day after they'd come up with the plan to break Lydia out of Eichen and things were already starting to fall apart.

Crossing her arms over her chest, Darcy listened to Kira and Malia as they took turns explaining the day's development in regards to Kira's powers. Neither the kitsune nor the werecoyote looked confident in Kira's abilities after they day they'd had; they'd spent a good portion of their free time trying to get her to dim the lightbulb, not just shatter it completely. From what they were saying, they'd had very little success, and this was evident from the grid-wide power outage Kira had caused.

"Look, I failed every single practice try." Kira's face was twisted in desperation, her hands skating slightly where they gestured vaguely in the air. Darcy couldn't help but feel sorry- they'd put a lot of pressure on her to get this right in very little time.

She slid her eyes from the kitsune over to Scott and Stiles, who shared matching looks of barely concealed worry. Their lack of confidence didn't help her own, and the smell of anxiety in the air only made things ten times worse.
