Three years later

"You are very beautiful," the man beneath me gasped out, his breath ragged and desperate. I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. "I am about to end your life with a mere push of this dagger," I said, my voice laced with incredulity, "and you're complimenting my beauty?"
He struggled to sit up, his eyes locked onto mine with intensity. "I simply ask if you are spoken for," he pressed, his brows furrowing in a misguided attempt at flirtation.
I raised an eyebrow, amused by his persistence. "We are on opposite sides of this battle. What makes you believe that, even if I weren't spoken for, I would pay you any heed?" I continued.
His gaze didn't waver. "You can not blame a man for trying," he said, leaning forward slightly. There was a strange, almost endearing determination in his eyes.
Before I could respond, a familiar presence intervened, stepping into the fray and cutting the moment short.
"Why are you bothering my wife?" Sihtric's voice cut through the din, his words a silent warning that brooked no argument. The man looked up, eyes wide with a mix of fear and disbelief, as Sihtric crouched next to me.
"She's married," he gawked, his voice trailing off into stunned silence. "To you of all people?"
"Yes, she is," Sihtric affirmed, his tone cold and unyielding. Before the conversation could go any further, the shouts of men retreating filled the air, a clear sign that the tide of battle had turned.
"Looks like your side has lost," I said with a shrug, standing up. Sihtric rose beside me, a silent sentinel. "Run while you still can, I'm feeling generous."
The man glanced between us, weighing his options, before scrambling to his feet and fleeing into the chaos.
Moments later, Osferth, Finan, and Uhtred joined us, each wiping the blood from their weapons, their expressions a mix of exhaustion and relief.
"Still fighting off stray lads, are you?" Finan's voice cut through the air, his words tinged with playful teasing as he glanced our way. Sihtric responded with a nod, pulling me closer into the circle of his embrace.
Uhtred let out a tut, and I sighed in exasperation. "You act as if it's my fault," I retorted.
"It is not my wife's fault that she is insanely beautiful," Sihtric interjected. With a smirk, I couldn't help but stick my tongue out at Uhtred.
"I bet you don't have to fight women off him," Osferth's chuckle resonated through the air, a ripple of laughter that washed over us like a gentle tide. I shook my head, joining in the amusement as Sihtric grumbled playfully at the jest.
"Hey, you chose to marry me. You can't go back now," Sihtric teased, his words a gentle reminder of the vows that bound us together. I turned to him, reaching out to cup his face in my hands, the warmth of his skin a familiar comfort.
"I wouldn't dream of it," I replied, pressing my lips to his in a silent affirmation of the love that bound us together.
In that moment, as our laughter echoed through the field, I knew that with Sihtric by my side, I had found my home amidst the chaos of the world. A chaos that followed me like a shadow, but one we faced together, hand in hand.

Thank you for reading 'Allure'. Whilst writing Vagabond I knew I wanted to write a Sihtric one as well but it took me so so long to come up with an idea I liked and stuck with, for instance, the first finalised idea for this was made on February 28th, yes I did check. I appreciate any comments, votes and kind messages.
I hope you all enjoyed it and look out for future projects ♥
