I woke up the next morning in my room. Ah right, I came home late. I rubbed my face and sat up. I sighed. Another nightmare. How surprising; it all felt like a dream now. I got up and combed through my hair, pulling it into a tight bun, and got dressed in more of a simple farming outfit, more of a man-like outfit, but I didn't dirty my nice Kimonos.
I grabbed a rice ball and started to eat it as I rushed out the door. My mind was thinking about everything I had to do... the field... the other field... herbs... ugh, so much to do! I didn't want these people to starve.
I stopped halfway down the path, Kakashi! I turned around to run back up the hill, but I ran into a body. I stumbled back, but he caught me, smiling down at me. "Good morning, my tiny human." He said that, making sure I was steady before stepping back.
I blinked, the rice ball in my mouth still. I stared at him, surprised, before grabbing the rice ball. Going back to eating it shyly. I blushed, looking back toward the fields, and went wide-eyed. I looked back at him. He was covered in bits of wheat.
I swallowed. "You did all of it?" I was astonished.
He chuckled and patted the top of my head. "What else would I do all night? I slept a bit but then I just kept thinking about you. So, I decided to help you with your tasks." He bopped me on the nose. "I also weeded the farm. Although I did run out of time. So that is all I had time to do." He said it, looking thoughtful.
I hugged him, feeling something positive bloom in my chest for the first time in a long time. I gasped, jumping back. "Sorry!" I blurted, then turned, running down the hill away from him. I looked back after a few feet.
He was simply walking after me with a smile, but under his Kasa, his eyes shimmered from that red glow.
I turned back to the farm, glad to see it was looking good. I headed toward the barn, and I told the kids I would take care of it today. To play for once. I let the animals out. Kakashi carried everything for me.
"Can you fill the food trough? I need to fix the roof." I asked him as I ran out, climbing onto the roof. Thankfully, I had started on it a while ago. I started by pulling the old boards off the roof. There were only two broken ones left so it was an easy fix.
"Please, let me do this." Kakashi was beside me.
I yanked a board up and gasped, not seeing him. I slammed him clear off the roof. I almost screamed, looking down over the edge at him. He was on his back. "Oh my god! Ka-"
He laughed and sat up, "I am fine." He looked up at me, amused. "Have to say that is a first..." He said it, shaking his head. "Toss me the old boards, and please don't fall." He looked up at me with such worry.
I looked at him, sorry, then tossed him the broken wood. Then I laid the new board down and patched the layers of hay that covered the roof. I whipped my face and then walked across the edge to where the other ladder was from when the kids had been here. I held it over my head, balancing as I put it on the other side of the roof, where it belonged. I headed down the ladder.
Kakashi had such an anxious look on his face. "I am aware that you have been on your own for a while, but seeing you work scares me." He admitted it, following after me as I went over to one of the horses. I pet it before grabbing the brush.
I looked at him tiredly. "I usually manage to not die." I whispered as I started to brush the horse down.
He watched me with his head tilted slightly. "It is nice to see you not so lost in life."
I looked up at him, frowning, "It must have been annoying to have to teach me all the time."
He shook his head. "Oh, I loved it, trust me, but it made me sad to think it was for such a bad reason. I will teach you anything you want... within reason." He added the last part quickly.
