Skin to skin

I looked at the injuries of the others around me. Farmers with broken legs, a few sick people. As someone sneezed, Kakashi lifted his kimono and shielded me slightly. I looked up at him curiously.

He watched me carefully, "The last thing we need is you getting sick." He whispered it. Someone came up to him, and he was pulling me along.

We ended up in a small room, and I was being painfully probed with this and that. My shoulder was so uncomfortable with so much movement.

Kakashi was sent out of the room to both of our detest. He said to just yell for him if anything went wrong.

"Alright, miss, you're not going to like this. Best get it over with." He handed me a wooden piece. He was gathering things, and I watched with confusion. "This wound is a nasty one, you're lucky to be alive. Remember that." He said it, then looked at me, expecting something.

I held the piece up, confused. "What is this for?" I asked softly.

He did a hand motion like biting down on something. I bit down on the wooden piece, confused.

"Prepare yourself."

I didn't even have a second to ask before a terrible pain went through my body. The wooden block fell from my mouth as I cried out.

The man was slammed against the wall before I could even gasp for air. I cried, holding my shoulder.

"What did you do?!" Kakashi snapped at the man.

I didn't even have time to listen as I was trying to deal with the overbearing pain pulsing through my body. I sobbed even as Kakashi turned me around, trying to talk to me.

"Mori, take a breath..." he pleaded, but I just held my arm, trying to make it hurt any less. But it was unrelentingly painful. He looked back at the fearful doctor and then gripped him up, staring into his eyes.

"You will tell me exactly what you had planned." He hissed it.

The doctor looked dazed. "Her shoulder broke... It was healing incorrectly. I made a clean rebreak to help her heal properly. It should be put in a sling, little movement in the area for the first few weeks. If not healed correctly, you may have to rebreak again." He said it so lifelessly.

Rebreak! I cried, shaking my head desperately at Kakashi. He looked torn and then closed his eyes, coming over to me. "He did what he had to... I'm so sorry, honey..." He said it, scooping me up carefully. I felt lightheaded as we left, seeing fuzzy faces as we left the room.

++++++++

I felt like this hurt worse than the first injury, maybe because I had slept so much of it off. I couldn't even sleep. It hurt too much. I was trying to find some way to sit that wasn't so uncomfortable. My eyes burned from lack of sleep, if not from crying so much. I was exhausted and hot.

Kakashi walked in carrying a tray. I was glad to see him, but I felt so dead at the moment. I tried to clear my throat, feeling harsh. With my free hand, I rubbed my throat, feeling terrible. I felt like I was covered in sweat.

He sat the tray down beside me; he looked tired as well. Not in the same way, but I'm sure he was tired of hearing me cry by now.

He shook his head at me and then took a look at my position. He took a breath, then froze. His eyes went to my face, and his eyes narrowed, sniffing again. "No..." He whispered in horror. He reached out and touched my forehead. His fingers felt nice and cool.

He cursed underneath his breath, "That's it." He rushed to the door, and it clicked shut. He locked it. "You're getting sick, Mori." He kicked off his shoes and climbed into the bed. He hesitated, and I looked at him, dazed. I had thought maybe the fire was too warm.
