"That is something that won't be happening." His voice cut through my mental breakdown.
I looked at him, the fire flickering across his face. "what?"
He signed, "I don't know if we should talk about it yet." He was watching me with a sad expression still.
I shook my head. "Please. What happened? I remember taking a drink... getting pulled away. You had been there, then I was gone." I pulled at my hair a little; it was a tangled mess. "I don't understand how he actually got away from you." I whispered it.
He looked like he was dreading this. "I don't blame you for wondering that." He walked over, crouching down, and handed me a plate of food. "You eat, and I will talk."
I nodded slowly and looked at the steaming food. With no chopsticks or anything, I scooped it up with my hand, shoveling it into my mouth.
"I was honestly overestimating myself, but I was also trying not to blow my cover. I wish I had just chased him." He said that with such regret, he squeezed the branch he had been using as a fire poker and it crumbled. He glanced at it, annoyed. "I finished knocking out the others and should have easily found you. But your scent was gone. It was like you vanished." He whispered it, seeming to still not understand it. "I followed the horse tracks, but as it started to rain, those vanished into the forest. Both your scents... gone." He said it, his face twisting in confusion and disbelief.
I listened, frozen, for a moment. "How... what?"
He looked at me and shrugged. "It is hard to hide a scent like yours. I wanted to investigate it, but... more important things. I was searching for you relentlessly. For two days, nothing! It was like you completely vanished!" His voice got loud, in disbelief and frustration.
I shoved more food into my mouth. I better finish this before I lose my appetite. "Then, how did you find me?" I asked, knowing this was going to get harder to hear.
He eyed me, almost narrowing his eyes. "It was you..." He whispered, looking at me with a look of pain.
I almost flinched back in shock. "What?" What was I?
He looked up at the stars in the sky. "Your mental abilities. I think taking my blood has made them grow. Before you showed me images from your mind... and then as I was looking, I heard your voice like a ripple in a pond. You had been mentally screaming for me. I came as fast as I could, but I was so far away." He closed his eyes. He looked like he wanted to skip this part as well.
I swallowed, my hands already shaking; mentally, I was doing everything I could to not remember. But glimpses seeped through: "Did you kill him?" I blurted it out, wanting to move away from it fast.
He looked at me, unsure again, his mouth in a hard line. He decided something and continued, "Your execution... was a worthy death sentence. I did not want to dirty my tongue with his blood." He said it with pure disgust. "And with the fact that I ended up giving you my blood, I am all the more glad I didn't." He snarled, "I wanted to rip his throat out." A black aura pulsed from Kakashi, almost knocking the wind out of me.
Before I could realize it, I was yards away from him, wide-eyed. My heart was already picking up the pace.
Kakashi closed his eyes as the rage pulsed; he was trying not to lose his shit. He didn't mean to scare me. His mental defenses had shattered from the anger. But slowly, he took deep breaths, and the aura dissipated. "I am very sorry," he said, looking ashamed. He felt like all he did was scare me or get me hurt.
I relaxed a little and slowly walked back over. I returned to my food. "I-I-I-" My mouth snapped shut, okay... I was too scared to speak. I looked at him, urging him to go on.
