Late to the Dance

The brain fears where the heart steers,
Thoughts of you drive me to tears,
I don't believe when you say you love me,
Your heart's a song and I can't sing your key,

Can we match enough to walk the aisle?
Or are we destined for despair, bloated so beguiled?
Answers lie within our hearts if only we could hear,
Let's hug and make nice no need for us to fear,

Our love was sewn the end of September but it won't bloom til the end of never, I'm holding on,
We kept score of digs like children and some nights sheets weren't slept in, those nights were long,
If I could fly through time backwards and hold my tongue on those bad words, I'd feel so strong,
But I know life flies forward, I guess that's our books foreword, baby I was wrong,

I'm alone now with a shadow of you, It's darkened my heart black and blue, It's my sad song,
The hurt burns my eyes from all the firestorm goodbyes, I've been crying all along,
Years of unrequited feelings I reminisce on our double dealings, I'm dead numb,
But bad times don't matter cause without you I just grow sadder, Will our time ever come?

The game of love is like a Ferris wheel,
Each go round changes how you feel,
But that's the way life goes, it sounds cliche,
As we orbit each other in a spiritual sway,

You deal with pressures of relationships,
Like the earth and moon in a lunar eclipse,
One body always overshadows the other,
An elliptical dance we act out undercover.
