Chapter 9: Coffee and Drama

When I got home, I went upstairs immediately and put on my cookie monster onsie pajamas. I went downstairs to make myself some coffee. I heard footsteps coming down the stairs, and it was Care.

"Hey Scar." She said. I ignored her. "Scarlet. Can we talk?"

Still no response.

"Scarlet!" She yelled.

I turned around. "What could you possibly want to talk about, Care?" I asked annoyed.

"Immortality. How we didn't tell you. Why we didn't tell you." She said.

"You explained that to me while on the phone last night. I don't think we need to discuss it any further than we did." I said.

"But there's more." She said.

"Oh, you mean where Klaus is only trying to manipulate me and everyone else, and he became a hybrid by breaking the moon curse by killing Elena, Jenna, and someone else? And also that they are Original Vampires that can't be killed? You can temporarily decapitate them by daggering them and until you take out the dagger they are dead for that time. Yeah Caroline, I think I know what I need to know for now." I said sipping my coffee again.

"Yeah. Your good." She said as she walked away.

Mrs. Forbes came downstairs. "Hey, Scarlet. How come you weren't home last night?" She asked.

"I spent the night with a friend of mine." I said.

"Oh, well welcome home! See you later for dinner." She said.

"Bye!" I said. Boy was I to be the most sassiest person in Mystic Falls today. I felt like the girls would keep bombarding me with information about immortality that I decided to get dressed and head to the grill. This was exactly what I needed before I turned 17 next week. I headed out of the house and walked to the grill. Thank god that it wasn't far from Care's house. When I walked inside, I sat down at a table. A waiter came over to me, and I recognized him.

"Hello. How are you doing this fine morning?" He asked. He had light brown hair, and light blue eyes that look like the ocean. He was fit, and he was so cute.

"I'm doing ok. I recognize you. You look so familiar." I said.

"Well that depends where you've seen me. I usually don't go anywhere except here and school." He said smiling at me.

"I think I've seen you in Mr. Saltzman's history class." I said.

"Oh yeah! Your Scarlet?" He asked.

"Yeah! You sit in the back, right?" I said.

"Yeah! I saw you with Stefan.." He said.

"Oh..." I said, "He's just a friend."

"Hah ok." He said, "I'm Matt. Matt Donovan."

"Hey Matt. You know Caroline right?" I asked.

"Yeah. I used to know her. I don't know what she's become. Ever since Klaus came to town she's been out whack. After my sister Vicki died, we went out together for a while. She then dumped me for Tyler Lockwood." He said.

"Who's Tyler Lockwood?" I said.

"Oh, he's probably just the biggest asshole in school if you ask me." He said.

"How?" I asked, "Besides the fact that he took away your girlfriend."

"He almost killed Stefan. Also Jeremy, Elena's brother. Ever since his dad died, THE MAYOR, his mom took over. Then his cousin Mason came to town, and he killed him too. But Stefan did call me last night and told me you know what they are now." He said.

"Oh my god. He sounds terrible, and yeah, Elijah told me last night after our date..." I said faintly.

He looked stunned that I went out on a date with an Original vampire. "Oh. How did you find out?" He said.

"Oh. I accidentally cut my palm with my knife, and he showed his true face. He then told me everything in the car." I said.

"Well that's a sucky way to find out. On your first date too...I'm so sorry Scarlet." He said.

"Nah, it's ok. It's all good. I was bound to find out anyway. But I'm just mad at Care because she didn't tell me in the first place. She wanted to talk to me this morning, but I just need some time away from them for now." I said.

"Hmm, well you can stay with me for the time being if to want. I can help with you with History homework too if you want." He said.

"I'll think about it." I said.

"Cool. Here's my number. Just shoot me a text whenever you wanna hang out." He said, "So, what would you like to drink?" He asked.

"Um, just a diet coke for now, please." I said.

"Sure. I'll be right back." He said.

"Thanks." I replied. I whipped my phone out when he left, and I had so many messages (54 to be exact). They were all from Caroline, I mean, most of them were. Then I kept scrolling and I got a text from Stefan.

It read:

I need to talk to you about something. Your brother is missing...Call me.

Oh no. No. It can't be happening. I called my brother, and there was no answer. Matt came back with my drink, ad he saw that I was worried.

"Hey, Scar, you ok?" He asked.

"Um, I am. But my brother isn't. Stefan texted me last night and told me he was missing." I said.

"Oh shoot. Hold on." He said running to the bar. I think he was leaving early to help me.

He came running back to me, and he took my hand and he ran out of the grill and into his truck. "Where are we going?" I asked.

"Stefan's house." He said. And, we were off just like that...
