Wei had hoped to be able to explain a few things, but all this had happened too fast and Yunlan had gone into shock. The best thing to do was to let him come out of it himself, but Wei stayed close by patiently waiting, and wandered around the room looking at the amazing collection of books on the shelves. It just confirmed what he had suspected, that Yunlan was a very clever person and was hiding his intellect from everyone. Eventually Wei saw him begin to move, starting to awaken, as he sat beside the bed watching for any signs of fear, it was the last thing he wanted to see in his eyes.
Yunlan recognised the feel of his own bed and also that Shen Wei was close by, ironic he thought, he must've given him a fright and he could see the strange twist in the situation, it was the other way around earlier. So when he opened his eyes he wasn't afraid. Annoyed, yes, angry, maybe, but he looked into Wei's eyes and saw his fear, and he spoke to him for reassurance,
"I'm alright Wei, it was just a bit to much to deal with all at once. I'm sorry I scared you. The letter shocked me and finding out how much power your guards have, was too much on top of everything else, so please explain some of it to me."
Yunlan could see the tension leave Wei's expression instantly, and he listened quietly as Wei explained his beginnings.
"I have royal blood and they are my personal guards who would willingly defend me with their lives. My home is not in this world, it's on the other one which was sealed off after the war."
Wei waited for any questions Yunlan might have, because today's generation didn't know anything about the war between two worlds.
"I know about the gateways and the war. It's in one of the older books I managed to find in an old bookstore before it closed down. So your family is in the other world, are you a prince Shen Wei? That would make your mother the ruler, what are you doing here in a university when you could be a ruler in your own world?" Yunlan asked confused.
At last Wei laughed, Yunlan was annoyed at him being something less than he could be in other circumstances.
"Zhao Yunlan, I was not destined to be the king, my twin was two minutes older and that was his fate not mine. I came here to stay with the ones from my world who wanted a better life through choice or were trapped by accident, they were and still are my responsibility. But now I have to act as my duty demands and if they break the law, I can open a gateway and send them back."
Yunlan could now see why Wei had to be here, but it opened up a few more questions and probably he would get the answers naturally as he got to know Wei better, but he did have to know one thing now and he asked about Daqing and Chu.
"Yes, they have been loyal to me for a very long time. I used to play with Daqing when he was a kitten. ... Daqing is part of the cat tribe and can transform into a cat when he feels like it, but let him tell you himself, it would be better if you pretend not to know at present."
