Epilogue ?
He was aware of being followed but never turned around to see who it was, as he kept on going to the one place where he would feel safe. He sensed him as soon as he'd left the hospital and walked hastily towards his car, but someone had slashed the tyres and he was forced to keep on walking rather than phone for alternative transportation, which would have taken too long to arrive at this time in the afternoon. He had hoped that by taking a route through the busy shopping precinct, he stood a better chance of losing his tail, but the feeling was still there and he quickened his steps.
He turned a corner and exited the busy area sooner than he had planned and was suddenly aware of a long silver sword aimed at his neck. He closed his eyes as he froze thinking that this is the end but the upward swish of another blade had removed the threat and he sank to the ground as the two swords clashed loudly, taking the fight away from him as he sat with his eyes closed. Eventually when the silence returned, he risked looking, but there was nothing until the voice beside him spoke.
"Next time walk a little slower, I nearly lost you," and a strong hand came down to help him rise.
"I'll give you a lift home, you should be ok from now on, but I'll keep watch for another week to be on the safe side."
The weakling was shown over to the large red four by four and he sat in the front while he was taken home and escorted to his door, with his guardian not leaving until he heard the click of the key in the lock.
Zhao Yunlan walked back to his car and sat talking to himself as usual while he gripped the steering wheel,
"Tell me again, why did I take this job? Because you needed the money, is it hard work? No, so stop complaining," and he accelerated from zero to wishful thinking, but only managed five mph. He had no desire to hit anyone or damage the tyres as he drove off, heading back towards his office to write out a report and go home for the day.
Eyes watched him from a distance, relieved that he was safe and wished that he had a different job, something less dangerous. He had already started his next canvas and didn't like what he was seeing, but he couldn't change it, he only painted the ideas that were sent to him.
