Chu slipped into Wei's room quietly, trying not to disturb him before he could study his breathing and look at his colour. Wei was too pale and he was in a deep sleep, earthquakes wouldn't disturb him until he awoke himself, so while chu waited, he thought about what Lin Jing had said, and he phoned Daqing and whispered to him.
"Can you do me favour, Daqing? Check and see if any of the people who were burgled have died and if they have, send me a text with names, causes and dates. I'll explain later, and I'm whispering because Shen Wei is asleep." The cat thought he was crazy but he did it anyway and checked everything.
Wei began to stir and was surprised to see Chu sitting watching him and smiled at seeing an old friend. He struggled, finding it difficult to sit up, which had Chu moving quickly towards him to help.
"Nice to see you, what brings you here? Just visiting?"
"No My Lord, Yunlan would like you to have a medical, he's concerned about your health and so am I, so no arguments."
Wei laughed, he didn't have the strength to argue with anyone and agreed too easily, which worried Chu because Wei didn't like medicals and never agreed without some kind of threat.
Yunlan was on his third cup of coffee before Chu was finished and called him up to Wei's room but also asked Ying to come and listen to what was being said because it was important for him to know. After Yunlan entered, he came over to Wei's bed and sat on the edge, reaching for his hand as they waited for chu to explain what was wrong.
"My Lord has been poisoned. It's a slow action drug causing depression, anaemia and general lethargy, ordinary conditions that could be overlooked, so it wouldn't be suspicious when it killed its victims. You touched it before the first time you felt really exhausted, that was when someone slipped it to you. I took a gamble and asked Daqing to look at the other burglary victims that we know of, and at least half of them have died suddenly. Nothing suspicious, nearly all suicides or signs of exhaustion through not looking after themselves. No reported murders but a lot of relatives angry with the system over the unexpected suicides."
Yunlan was shocked, he never expected this and why would they be killing the special people? This would take time to work out.
"What can we do for Wei can we stop the reaction in his system, is there an antidote?" Yunlan asked with concern clearly shown in his manner.
Chu wasn't sure, he would need to test Wei's blood and that would take time but Yunlan felt the grip on his wrist tighten and knew that the snake had something to say. He didn't know if anyone was aware that the snake could talk, but he allowed it to join in the conversation and slipped his jacket off. The snake slithered out and raised itself to its full height before it bowed to Shen Wei and spoke.
"Excuse me for interrupting, but some of us have been dealing with poison a lot longer than others. If you would allow me to taste some of your blood, I can help. Young Lord."
