It had only taken seven days to turn Yunlan's world upside down, and the name of the storm was Shen Wei. He had managed to show love and concern through his actions. He had protected and induced fear at the same time, and now he was risking his own security by searching for this unknown degenerate who liked to use a pen as his weapon. Wei wasn't surprised to hear Yunlan's heartbeat increase again as he listened to his conversation, but it was a normal anger reaction and he wasn't as worried as he had been earlier. Yunlan never released his hand as he spoke to Wei and stared at him.
"It's too dangerous for you, Shen Wei," he said and knew that Wei would not be convinced to back off from this situation.
"Is it any less dangerous for you Zhao Yunlan? He cannot get to me, there are too many barriers for him to cross, but you he can, and has already tried to kill you twice."
Yunlan could feel the anger flow through Wei's grip but there was more, he was afraid of seeing him hurt physically or mentally. He began to see how much Wei cared for him even though he had only known him for such a short time. His emotions ran deep, and the detective mind had questions which sounded too absurd to ask. He wondered if Wei had known someone like him before, in his own world, or in a previous life.
Yunlan had never believed in past life experiences but if he was given proof of anything, it always made him reconsider what he knew or didn't. He never knew about the three year war with another world until he found it in an old book which would have been lost when the shop was closed down. If he had been suspicious enough about the closure, he would have considered it a political scheme to destroy the knowledge, but he wasn't going to open that can of worms. It was sheer luck that he'd managed to rescue the book.
However Shen Wei was right about his defences, it would be easier to get to him and then a realisation hit him hard. The soft voice while he was on the rooftop was Shen Wei. He had removed the poison from his system and told Daqing what was wrong. He had saved his life twice and he stared at Wei while he rested his elbows on the table, and cradled his hand as he spoke to him softly.
"Thank you, Xiao Wei. You have saved me twice and I have never said thankyou. Now, how does your cooking taste when it's cold, because we have talked too much?" and he laughed as Wei looked at the cold dinner and tasted it, deciding that maybe they could go out for a meal instead.
They chose the same bar restaurant that they had separately been in earlier the week, the food was great and the staff knew Yunlan, therefore getting a table wouldn't be a problem even at this time in the evening. Transport was not an issue when Wei volunteered to teleport them to a quiet area around the corner out of view of the street cameras, and Yunlan agreed. So they took time to change and freshen up, while Wei informed the guards where they were going and they headed for the restaurant.
The owner was pleased to see them both and hadn't realised that they knew each other. He chose a secluded table near the open fire towards the rear of the room, giving them one of the better views of the lounge. It was the least he could do in gratitude to Yunlan for his actions a few days ago. It was a beautiful evening, they ate rich food, and enjoyed the atmosphere while Yunlan was given his favourite wine, and Wei tried some new non alcoholic drinks. The fire crackled a few times which added another level of interest to the evening, and they talked about each other's childhood memories.
