Hawk / Hartley / Rebecca

Seeing a familiar face amid all the seriousness and urgency of the situation was comforting. Ramona walked inside the spacious room and was greeted by the men around the table.

Since Ramona is a councilor, she could attend this meeting without Malin present.

She was wearing something completely different from her knight attire. It was formal with a gold sequence and a blue Vitalis pin on her chest making it known that she was a high-ranking official in the Kingdom of Vitalis but she also had a tiny red Credian pin beside it to show her respect for the Kingdom of Credia.

Her knights headed for the sides and stood beside the other Gonian knights before she headed and sat beside me.

"No Malin?" I whispered to her.

She shook her head with a grumble, "She needs to get back to Vitalis and I on the other hand was only a few hours away. I just arrived here from Kingdom Fyn." She sighed, "Malin owes me big time for this. She knows how much I don't want to be here."

I turned to her as her eyes showed anger and some pain beneath it. I don't think anyone likes Gona aside from the ones that live here, but something in Ramona's tone says that she doesn't like this kingdom for a different reason.

"Welcome everyone. I know most of you know what this meeting is about." King Matthew said as he was standing at the head of the table with a wide grin. "This is still the first step and far from the final stage of this union, but I'm hopeful that this meeting will conduct a fruitful closing and one step closer to a wonderful alliance between Vitalis and Gona."

I hid my wince. He looked so excited and hopeful that I felt a little guilty that I knew this meeting would never end in a union but I needed to remember that Gona is a horrible place and the King was just as bad for basically selling his daughter to the most "evil" kingdom that he knows of.

King Matthew grabbed and opened a scroll, "Here's a rough draft of our contract when everything is well and done. It contains the list of agreements that would be agreed upon after Rebecca and Faith get married," he said confidently but you could see he turned uncomfortable after saying our names. Even if he was trying to convince himself that it was fine because I was "half man," the name Rebecca still hits him with my femininity.

He will never hide from the fact that he was marrying his daughter to a woman and this will not go over well with his people.

He cleared his throat to continue, "Of course, the rebels are going to be the first that will be dealt with, they are giving us too much trouble than we could handle." The men at the table nodded in agreement.

I glanced at the plump man at the left side of the table who I assumed was the King of Kingdom Aleich, King Tom. He had a dark thick beard and dead eyes. I saw him at the banquet with a group of men from Kingdom Aleich and Kingdom Nix. They were the group I was most suspicious of.

He kept staring at me with darkness in his eyes. It's most likely because he knew I was from Vitalis, but from the way his stares burned on me it felt like he knew more. Like he knew that I was lying.

I ignored him and watched as the king continued to list the things Vitalis could help with, but I doubt Malin would invest that much in a Kingdom like this that barely had anything to offer.

Now that I had time to think about our plan a little more. I felt more inclined to think that it would work. This was the best way to buy time and also keep me safe because even Gonian knights were ordered to protect me, but of course, things could always go wrong.
