I nodded, "I guess that's all for now. Let's go to bed and meet up tomorrow if you haven't changed your mind about being involved in this," I said.

I just really want to get on this gorgeous bed and pass out. This night has been unbelievably long.

I'll sneak into my old room tomorrow for my belongings. Maybe Princess Faith can help me with that.

Speaking of the Princess, I turned to her to see why she suddenly turned quiet.

Princess Faith bit her lip awkwardly as looked anywhere but me.

"What?" I asked cautiously.

She winced as she faced me, "I'm staying here," she said.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Her chambers were in the main castle and very much available for slumber.

"...Why?" I asked carefully.

She sighed in frustration, "My father thinks I should stay here so I have time to get to know you more," she said in a mocking tone while her blue eyes slightly lost their shine. It was like her whole view on life was suddenly moving farther away from her.

Her view of her father and her future was like a ship disappearing into the misty horizon, never to be seen again.

I clenched my jaw. I realized that what I said earlier was spot on and I never felt this bad about being right.

The king was hoping we could finalize this alliance with a child. He must have noticed that Vitalis was not as passionate about this alliance as him, and Malin could turn her back at a moment's notice.

He wants to force Malin's hand in signing those treaties.

Well, too bad for him since I don't have the equipment for child-making.

"What a piece of shit," I mumbled quietly but I knew Princess Faith heard when I saw her look away. She couldn't deny it.

I knew that the king was only doing what he thinks is best to save his kingdom but doing this to your youngest daughter was unacceptable.

I'm not a saint but I have a decent moral compass compared to a lot of people who forgot theirs along the way.

What if it wasn't me that was here right now, what if it was a prince like Prince Bryce or one of the Nix brothers? Princess Faith was thrown with the wolves by her own father.

The worst thing about this is that King Matthew thinks I'm worse than any of those dreadful royals because he believes I'm from Vitalis (the land of evil as they say), yet he still orders his daughter to be alone with me and basically gave me his blessing to do whatever I wanted to her.

That's what makes him a piece of shit.

"He's desperate," Princess Faith said in disappointment.

I shook my head, "Don't make excuses for him. If I thought Vitalians were the worst people on earth, I would never leave any of my children alone with them. Not even my dog if I had one."

Princess Faith sighed and sat on the bed. She knows what I said was right. Her father would sacrifice anything to his legacy alive, even if it was the dignity and life of his children.

The unfortunate thing is, he had all the opportunity to do things the right way.

He could have preserved his daughter's dignity and kept his kingdom afloat, but he chose to make alliances with kingdoms like Nix and Aleich instead of Credia, or any other kingdom that could offer more.
