Niko POV
A week went by with no disturbance. Vivian didn't complain, fight, or give me even a hint of attitude. She and Amy remained in her room most of the day, joining us every night for dinner. I didn't have any guests over because the hour we sat at the table was barely enough time with her. I wasn't going an entire day without her close to me.
Conversations carried on around us, but I was lost in the morbid dark seas she surrounded me in. Vivian had no happiness in her face and she barely ate. I asked the staff to update me on her meals from breakfast and lunch and they said she eats about half her plate. Amy was also quiet. Whenever anyone spoke to her, she hid behind Viv who just rubbed her arm or caressed her hair.
I couldn't stomach watching them this way, but I had no choice. Viv's outburst twisted my hand and I couldn't trust her around the families anymore. I thought of allowing her to return to work with Dennis, but I didn't like her alone with him either.
Vanessa spent more time talking about our wedding plans than anything else and I found myself walking away from her often. She needed to understand I liked quiet obedient women. Vanessa was obedient, but never fucking quiet. I told her a thousand times I don't care about the wedding. Just give me the date and I'll be there. That didn't stop her from either talking about it around me or asking my opinion.
At the dinner table Vivian never once looked her way. Any mention of our wedding had no effect on her body and it annoyed me. At first, I was aiming to make her jealous, but now I was mad she felt nothing.
"Enough! Mention your wedding one more time and I will cancel it." I yelled at Vanessa, unable to hear her voice another second.
"Of course, Capo. My apologies." She lowered her head, making me roll my eyes internally. I can't stand that woman.
"Stop speaking all together." I waved her away with my hand wishing it made her disappear.
"Are you going to fucking eat?" I shouted at Viv, making her jump in her chair. She never reacted that way to me before. She never coward down to my hard gaze or jumped at my cold orders. Something was wrong with her.
"Yes, of course. Sorry." She spoke softly, picking up her fork and taking a small bit. Her eyes never leaving her plate.
I couldn't take this anymore. It's only been a week and my insides were tearing apart watching her become more and more depressed.
"I talked to Dennis and he would like you to go back to work. You can take the brat with you."
I had to say something. She would be safe with Dennis, which I'm sure is the reason Tommy got her that job in the first place. Vivian froze and just stared at her plate. She was contemplating something. Did she not want to work now?
"You could leave the house. Mario will bring you to work and straight back. No lunches or meetings outside the building. Any problems, even the slightest of trouble, and you'll never leave this house again." My tone was harsh, but that was only because she had no reaction. I was doing this to make her happy yet she seemed unfazed.
"I won't cause any problems. Thank you." She said, still not meeting my eyes.
I quickly stood from my chair, throwing it back then slammed the basement door behind me. I was done with all this. I stood at Joseph's cell, watching his frail body shiver in fear.
I tortured him over and over again for two weeks and still I felt no satisfaction from it. I enjoyed his screams and he deserved the pain after what he did to Tommy, but it wasn't taking the pain of losing him away.
I opened the cell, standing before his body chained to the wall. "Please, kill me. Please." He begged, unable to stand another moment of my wrath.
"I don't normally make my traitors suffer this long. You took the only person I cared about in this world from me. Tommy was my brother and you killed him like he was nothing. He wasn't nothing!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." He cried over and over. He wasn't sorry though, he just wanted this to end and so did I.
I grabbed his hair tight in my fist then ran my blade slowly across his neck. The bastard smiled at me then muttered "thank you" as blood poured out his neck. I called a guard to dispose of him and left.
Last night we raided his home, taking out more than half his men and killing any chance of them rising up again. I told them to not harm Michael but he was nowhere to be found. I wanted to bring him home for Vivian, hoping it would break this depression she was under.
A small part of me worried something had happened to him too. He should have been home. Not one of my spies seen him enter that property since his brother was taken though. A family member may have him in hiding. I sent out an alert to look for him and that I wanted him unharmed and alive, but so far, no one knew anything about his whereabouts. That family hid for twenty years and I knew it was a location no one had ever seen before.
I walked back upstairs, startling Viv at the counter getting a glass of orange juice. She looked pale, about to pass out. My doctor was coming tomorrow and I wanted every test ran on her to find out what the hell was causing this. Did her time here somehow cause a mental breakdown?
"Hey, are you ok?" I rushed to her side, steadying her wobbly body. What the hell was this?
"I'm ok. Why are you covered in blood?" She looked at me frightened. My shirt and pants had Joseph blood all over me.
"I killed Joseph." I couldn't even give her a satisfied smile. I could barely figure out how to breathe watching her deteriorate like this.
"He was alive this whole time!" She gasped.
"He killed Tommy. He deserved a long and painful death." My eyes scanned her face, trying to magically figure out what illness she had.
"Niko! You're a mons..." she cleared her throat. "I'm sorry. It's none of my business. I should go lay down." She went to move away from me but I grabbed her in my arms, smearing the blood all over her silk night gown. I didn't care though. I needed her close.
"I can't watch you like this Viv." I whispered in her ear as my hand softly ran up and down her spine.
"I'm sorry for upsetting you, but I'm fine. Just low blood sugar." She held up her glass not returning my hug. She was in my arms, yet felt a million miles away.
"I don't know how to fix this."
"There's nothing to fix. Can I please go lay down now?" She whispered back to me. I swear I wanted to fucking cry.
A big ass beast like myself crying over one tiny woman. My eyes glazed over her neck and I saw the faded purple there. My fingers touched her skin gently, unable to get a grip on my emotions. I did that to her. I know I left bruises before, but it was different. They were while I was inside her and we both found an erotic bliss. This was from my anger while I threatened to harm her. She really believed I would hurt her now.
"Sorry." I let her go and walked out of the kitchen.
The moment her eyes caught mine I saw the fear in them. I wanted to erase it out of her. I'm sure being covered in blood didn't help any either.
