The following day Noah knew he needed to talk to Kat. Determined, Noah approached Kat's room, his heart pounding in his chest as he knocked softly on her door, the sound echoing through the quiet hallway as he waited for her response.
"Kat, can we talk?" Noah called out, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
"Yes of course," she replied quickly turning off her phone that was still playing Billies song.
Noah stepped into her room, his gaze softening as he took in the sight of his sister's tear-streaked face. "I wanted to apologize, Kat," he began. "I've been distant, and I haven't been there for you when you needed me most. I'm sorry for not being more understanding, for not being a better brother."
Kat's eyes widened in surprise, her heart pounding with a glimmer of hope as she listened to Noah's words. "No-Noah it's okay," she replied softly, her voice tinged with emotion. "If anything I should be the one apologising to you. I understand why you needed space, and I don't blame you for anything.."
Noah nodded, a sense of relief washing over him. "I just want things to go back to the way they were before," he admitted, his voice tinged with vulnerability. "I miss having you as my best friend, Kat."
Tears welled up in Kat's eyes as she reached out for a long hug. "Me too, Noah," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "You have no idea how much this means to me. I've missed you so much,"
For a moment, they just hugged in silence acknowledging their shared pain but being able to stand over it. As they pulled away from each other, Noah offered Kat a reassuring smile.
"But Kat," he began, his voice filled with encouragement, "I think it's time you talked to Billie."
Kat's eyes widened in surprise at Noah's words, disbelief flickering across her features. "Noah, I can't," she protested weakly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I won't let anything get between us again:"
Noah's expression softened "Then we won't let it happen, but Ive seen how heartbroken you were the last weeks. Honestly I think you were more broken then I was and I was the one dating her," He let out a small laugh. "Anyway, I've been doing a lot of thinking, and I've realized that my relationship with Billie... it was never as deep as what you two shared."
Kat's breath caught in her throat at Noah's confession. She had never expected her brother to be so understanding, to put her happiness above his own.
"Noah, I-" Kat tried to speak, but Noah gently shook his head, a sad smile playing on his lips.
"I want you to be happy, Kat," Noah continued, his voice filled with sincerity. "Even if it means I have to sacrifice my own feelings. I can't stand in the way of something that's meant to be."
"But I don't want to see her if I hurt you,"
As Noah looked at his sister, his heart filled with love and understanding. "I know, Kat," he admitted softly, "and I appreciate everything you've done for me. But... you're more important to me than anything else and she clearly makes you happy, so who am I to get in between the two of you?"
"But what about you?" Kat whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "What about how you feel?"
Noah reached out and gently took Kat's hand in his, offering her a reassuring squeeze. "I'll be okay, Kat," he assured her earnestly, "I promise. I just want you to be happy, no matter what."
