Opal sat on her bed, crying buckets of tears. Della patted her back and said, "Don't cry, Opal. Accidents happen."
"But this wasn't an accident. I... I was just blinded by anger. I'm a monster, " Opal cried.
" You're not a monster. Anger is normal. Especially since what the Council asked of you is big. Really big."
Opal hiccupped. "I'm... I'm sorry."
Della hugged Opal. "It's all right. You'll learn to control your powers better after the lessons with Lady Cherish."
Soon after Della left to check on Alden, Opal was sitting on the fluffy teal carpet on the floor, thinking of what she had done. Her head was in her hands, and her mouth was dry. She was staring at the floor, hardly breathing. The regret was too huge.
She had just indirectly hurt Alden, who had been so nice as to adopt her. And she had repaid him by hurting him. She was a monster, despite what Della had said. Della just didn't know how it felt to be attacked by a monster, those bullies who don't care an ounce about their victim.
But you care.
It wasn't his fault that the Council ordered me to do that.
You were angry!
I thought about hurting Alden.
It was unintentional! You don't know how to control your powers.
I shouldn't have existed anyway.
You... Every being is important.
Not me. No one would've cared if I wasn't born. Life would still continue.
Opal sighed. She stared at the carpet. The teal just reminded her of Alden. A tear rolled down her cheeks.
She had to make sure he was alright.
