"Ouch! Let go!" Opal screamed. She swung and flailed, but the peculiar man just held on tighter.
"Don't try to resist," the man threatened, "We have been searching for you for very, very long."
"Who are you?" Opal asked, finally giving in.
The man ignored her and took out a weird, wand-like stick. The stick flashed, and Opal felt warm and fuzzy like there was feathers all over her. After a while, the sensation stopped, and Opal could smell the crispy air. It smelt fresher and cooler. A woman in a white dress rushed over.
"Oh! You've got the girl. Good. The Vackers want to talk to her."
Opal was confused, trying to take everything in. She glanced around and saw the most majestic palace she had ever seen. The jewels shone brightly in the blinding light, and the trees swayed calmly. It was only after a moment before she came back to her senses.
"Where am I?" she screamed.
"Oh, stop shouting little girl," the woman shushed her, "Everything will be explained soon."
Opal must've had a doubtful look on her face because the woman continued, "Don't worry. We won't harm you. But if you must know, we are at Everglen, the home of the Vackers. They'll help you understand better."
Rage boiled inside of Opal. These people thought they could just kidnap her and not get punished? Her parents had taught her some self-defense moves, just in case there was a dangerous situation. Opal was going to show them her best moves.
Opal did a fancy twirl and kicked the man in the stomach. The man flew backwards and slammed into a tree. Then, Opal faced the woman. Just as she was about to punch the woman, a stern voice said, "Stop."
Opal didn't want to, but the person said it with such authority that she couldn't help but turn around. Facing her was a smiling man. He extended his hand.
"My name is Alden Vacker. It's nice to finally meet you, Opal Lorna."
Opal scowled at Alden. "What am I doing here?"
"I'll explain. First, let's go inside and sit down."
Alden walked toward the palace, and Opal reluctantly followed, grumbling, "You call that a house? A castle more like."
Alden just smiled.
