The next morning, I woke up very late due to the tiredness of the journey, also I felt like tons of weight lifted from my head because now Renna is safe, and she is in my city. I sighed and climbed out of my bed to start my day.
I tried calling her, but she didn't pick up my phone, so I threw the phone in bed and headed to take a shower. I was in the process of making up my mind to encounter the number of pending tasks in the office. My phone started to ring I left my shower in the middle and reached for my phone because I thought it was Margot. Renna's name flashed on my screen. With a sense of trepidation, I answered the call.
"I am going to drop you off, and then I'll need your car for a day or two," Renna announced without preamble.
I didn't understand her. "Why the fuck do you want my car? Why not go for my other cars?"
Renna completely ignored to answer my suggestion and responded. "See you in fifteen minutes, come downstairs."
Renna's plans were set in stone, so I gave up conflict with her and quickly finished getting ready. Renna showed up on time, and we both got into the car, mentally getting ready for the day ahead.
The moment I stepped into the office I threw myself at pending work at my table waiting for me. I wanted to meet Margot, I was hoping to see her on my way to my office, but she was nowhere to be found. When I asked about her from one of her friends, I got to know she was out for lunch.
The day went by faster than I thought it would because of all the meetings and emails that took up my time.
I didn't know how late it was until 7 p.m. There was a call on my phone, and when I saw Renna's name flash on the screen, my heart skipped a beat. Whatever prayer I could recall I said in my mind and picked up her call. "I am coming to pick you up because I am starving to death."
When her voice was still fresh and lively, I sighed in relief. "Yeah, I am wrapping up."
Renna asked. "How long should I wait?"
I squinted. "What is with the hurry?"
Renna confessed. "Actually, I have seen a restaurant, and I can't wait to devour the food."
I giggled. "Alright, I am coming down."
"I'm five minutes away," Renna stated, her impatience evident.
"Okay" I uttered, gathering my belongings and making my way out of the office.
When we finally settled into our seats at Tappa Italiana. I couldn't stop myself from talking about Margot. While eating, Renna once again mentioned my birthday. I stopped eating and asked. "How long have we have been friends?"
Renna squinted. "Like a decade but why is this relevant to your birthday party?"
I took a deep breath to calm myself. "Have you ever seen me partying on my birthday?
Renna swallowed her bite. "But this year you are going to celebrate, and this is final, no more denying or throwing fits."
I flicked my both hands in a surrender kind of gesture. "Do whatever the fuck you want because I know nothing can stop you from doing what you have decided to do."
Renna laughed and then rest of the dinner she didn't talk about it. After dropping me off she refused to take my car instead she told me to go to my apartment as she wanted to walk alone in some fresh air.
I watched her walk away and when she was no more visible, I headed upstairs. It was a big relieve to see her coming back to a normal life but her sudden interest on my birthday celebration is still a mystery to me.
