When you got off the dance floor, Bucky kept his hand in the small of your back as though he couldn't get enough of you. You finished your strawberry daiquiri, and Jennifer announced she had to go since she had an early shift at work tomorrow.
"We have to do this again though" she warned you.
"Of course, make sure you take some tylenol and drink lots of water when you get home," you warned her. "Text me" you added.
"Yes mom" she giggled. "Tonight was fun, good luck" she wiggled her eyebrows at you and she headed out the door. You pulled out your phone and started to order an Uber.
"What are you doing?" Steve asked curiously.
"Ordering an Uber" you advised.
"No, don't be silly. We were going to head out anyway. Let us drive you home" he shook his head."No, I'll be okay," you giggled. "Stay, have fun!" you went back to your phone. Bucky's gloved hand covered your phone and he gave a half smirk.
"Let us take you home, doll" he winked at you.
"Yeah, we've got lots of room in the SUV," Sam spoke up. "You'll be stuck in the back with me though" he added a little apologetically.
"No, you can ride shotgun" Bucky said automatically.
"Um, okay. I guess I'll get a ride with you three. But no funny business" you warned them.
"I wouldn't dream of it," Steve shook his head. "You're the best assistant I've ever had," he added.
Bucky led you to the door with his hand in the small of your back, and then he opened the door for you to walk out. You shivered with the sudden breeze outside in comparison to the hot and smokey bar.
"Shit, come on. Let's get to the car doll" Bucky put his arm around your shoulders and pulled you in. You let him guide you to a black SUV and he opened up the back passenger side door and waited for you to get in. You hopped in and he buckled you in and grabbed his black leather jacket from the front seat and draped it over you to keep you warm. Sam and Steve both got in while Bucky ran around to the other side and he got in beside you and buckled himself in.
"Thank you," you said in a soft voice.
"Where do you live?" Bucky asked.
"Compound B" you flushed a little.
"A dame like you has been that close all this time?!" he asked, a little aghast. "Where have I been?"
"On missions" Steve told him from the front seat with a chuckle. "Also in the gym. You said you were too busy for any of the techy stuff and didn't want to be cooped up in an office" he reminded him.
"It's time I learned," Bucky said.
"Look at you robo cop. You're finally listening" Sam quipped.
"What's your plan for the weekend?" Bucky asked as Steve started driving.
"Reading mostly. My cat Melody likes the uninterrupted time together" you shrugged. "And you?" you asked.
"Learning how to use my cell phone better," he smirked and gave a wink. You looked out the window and cuddled under the leather jacket.
"I didn't know you had a tattoo," Steve said conversationally.
"I have a few. I hide them with my work clothes" you admitted softly.
"The butterfly is pretty," Bucky said quickly. "What's it mean?"
"When I was little I read this legend that when cats pass away, they turn into butterflies when they come back to visit from Heaven to check on their humans. It always stuck with me. I had a cat I grew up with that passed away a few years after I finished college, so I got a tattoo to remember her by" you said softly. "I had seen a blue butterfly shortly after she passed, so I just went with it."
"What was her name?" Sam asked before Bucky could.
"Persephone" you smiled at the reminder of her. "She was a tuxedo cat" you smiled at the memory.
"I have a cat named Alpine. He's very affectionate" Bucky told you. "Maybe our cats should have a playdate?" he asked. You couldn't help but giggle while Steve and Sam laughed from the front of the car.
"Smooth move Romeo" Sam shook his head.
"I don't think Melody would appreciate me carting her outside of the apartment. Thank you though" you giggled at the thought. "I tried her on a leash, but she hated it."
"I can bring Alpine to your place" he suggested and you thought about it for a moment.
"I don't know if it's the drinks or not, but I would swear you were trying to get a date" you narrowed your eyes at him.
"What if I am?" he asked a little coyly.
"I don't know. Am I allowed Steve?" you asked, feeling tipsy.
"There's nothing in your contract that says you can't date," Steve said carefully. "I helped Tony write it."
"Okay, we can have a kitty date" you agreed finally and Bucky looked like he had been holding his breath grinned from ear to ear.
"Perfect" he said, reaching across the seat and taking your hand in his.
