Fury's offer

Bucky stayed until the end of the documentary, and then gave you another kiss goodnight before leaving. The next morning you woke up and stayed in bed for a bit, cuddling Melody and just enjoying the music that you had left to play on your phone overnight. Your phone pinged with a new message and you saw it was from Bucky.

Bucky: Good morning, beautiful. Are you up for another reading date?
You: It looks like it's raining out.
Bucky: I thought I could bring over Alpine and we would have our kitty date.
You: We can do that, sure!
Bucky: I'll be over after lunch, and I'll bring coffee.
You: We can get coffee from the cafeteria. Lol.
Bucky: No way, doll. Let me spoil you.
You: Careful, I might start getting used to it.
Bucky: You could always start now, because I'm not going to stop. Go eat your breakfast while it's hot.

You giggled and gave Melody a kiss on top of her furry head and rolled out of bed. You quickly shut the curtains before going to do your morning business and grabbing a quick shower. You changed into a pair of black cropped leggings and a v neck band t-shirt. You put on a pair of slippers and made your way to breakfast and grabbed all of your favorites with extra juice and coffee to start off your morning strong. You sat in the corner and pulled out your kindle and started reading. You had a notification on your phone of an incoming text and it was from Bucky sending you a picture of his breakfast. You giggled and sent him one of your own.
After breakfast you went back to your room and tidied up before opening all the curtains again. You turned on one of your favorite tv shows and grabbed your knitting out of your bedroom to make a scarf. You wanted a pink scarf to match your brown leather jacket this winter and were getting a head start on it. Melody started playing with the ball of yarn as you knitted and you couldn't even hold it against her. She was being too cute about it. Your phone rang and you saw it was Nick Fury. You put the phone on speaker and paused the tv.
"Good morning Nick" you greeted him, continuing to knit.
"Good morning. How are you feeling, Y/N?" he asked, his voice a bit hushed.
"Pretty good. Just trying to knit again" you admitted quickly.
"I still have the scarf you made me last year" he chuckled.
"Good, I'm sorry it had so many mistakes in it. I think I'm getting better at least" you said, wondering why he had called. You let it go silent for a moment and he seemed to get the hint.
"I wanted to say thank you for helping me with finding my agents," he said softly.

"You know I'm always here to help you, Nick" you said with a broad smile on your face.
"I was wondering if you wanted to come back. It's safe now" he continued.
"No, I'm happy where I am. I'll come to help you, but Shield doesn't feel safe anymore. They tried to take me from the parking lot" you frowned.
"I've found the leak, and I've taken care of it" he assured you.
"It doesn't change that Hydra almost got me again, Nick. I can't take chances. My only friend I have left still doesn't know that you've bugged her apartment" you shook your head, even though he couldn't see you. "Here feels safe," you added softly.
"They might find you there too" he warned you.
"Then I'll run again. I'll keep running" you sighed.
"I don't think running is the answer. We should have Maria teach you more self defense and offensive moves" he suggested.
"I'll think about it" you bit your bottom lip, momentarily stopping your knitting. "Do Steve and Tony know about the attempt?" you asked unsurely.
"I appraised them of everything" he hesitated before answering. "Are you sure you don't want to come back?" he asked.
"I'm happy here. Better insurance, and I don't have to worry about being grabbed from my bed in the middle of the night" you giggled. "Nice try though!"
"Well, the offer stands. I'll get you better insurance and a higher pay" he said, trying to strong arm you.
"I know where to find you" you rolled your eyes since he wasn't taking no for an answer.
"I'll be in touch" he said and hung up.
You paused for a moment, wondering if you were truly safe like he was claiming you to be. You had been able to sleep soundly since accepting the position at the Avengers compound simply because there were only a handful of people that knew where you lived. You didn't even disclose it to your estranged family. You sighed heavily and turned the tv back on before resuming your knitting. You guessed you would never know.

"Hey doll" Bucky had come into the cafeteria with Alpine standing proudly on his shoulder. Both of them looked a little wet. He was holding one of his science fiction novels in his hand, and wearing his glove again.
"Hey Bucky" you looked up from your book and grinned at him. You were just finishing your lunch, and still had dessert to eat. You pulled out the seat next to you and gestured to him to sit down. "Want a bite?" you asked.
"Nah, I ate" he shook his head. "Thank you though" he grinned. "I stopped by your place, but since you didn't answer I left the iced coffees outside your door."
"Thank you" you giggled. He sat down beside you and Alpine dropped off his shoulder to his lap and started purring loudly. You reached out and he gave you a sniff before he licked your finger and you pet him. He was a beautiful cat, and very well mannered.
"Tell me more about Alpine, because he does not even seem bothered that he was out in the rain" you pointed out and Bucky grinned. He took off his baseball cap and opened his leather jacket to show he was wearing a black hoodie, and white t-shirt to go with his black jeans.
"He's a pretty laid back cat. He helps a lot with my nightmares. Sam and Steve got him for me" he said with a proud look on his face. "We've been together for four years now. He doesn't mind car rides or walks outside. We only fight when he wants to join me in the gym. I don't want him getting hurt and he seems determined to follow me in" he grinned.
"Does he get along with other cats?" you asked curiously.
"He should" he said, but you could tell he wasn't sure.
"Well, let's find out. Melody is pretty easy going" you finished your dessert and got up to put your dishes away. He got up quickly to follow you, and Alpine went back to his shoulder. You led the way back to your apartment and you bent down to pick up the coffees. Bucky groaned from behind you and you looked at him curiously. He flushed a bit and looked away, but you could tell his eyes had been on your ass. You opened the door to your apartment and walked in, leaving it open for Bucky and Alpine to walk in. Melody came running into the room and meowed while weaving her way through your legs. You picked her up and her tail puffed up when she noticed Alpine. He gracefully jumped from Bucky's shoulder to your own and leaned down to sniff Melody who just sniffed him right back. You held your breath for a moment, wondering if you were going to be in the middle of a cat fight when Alpine just started purring. Melody meowed and head butted Alpine and you finally started breathing again.
"Looks like we lucked out" Bucky smiled at you. "You owe me a kiss, doll" he said, licking his lips.
"Were you too nervous to kiss me in the cafeteria?" you asked as you set the two cats down on the sofa.
"More like I was worried about how you would feel about it" he closed the distance between the two of you. He wrapped one hand around your waist and his other hand went to the back of your head as he dipped his head down and kissed you like he was worshiping you. You hummed happily against his lips and his tongue delved in past your lips. You ran your hands up and down his chest and leaned more into him, barely taking a moment to breathe. His one hand on your waist started moving down to your ass and he grabbed a handful and did a small squeeze as he pulled your hips in closer. You could feel his erection pressing into you, and you felt so powerful in that moment.
"I welcome your kisses anytime" you sighed as he started to pull away. "I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks" you gave a soft smile.
"Good, because I don't either" he kissed the tip of your nose. "What are we reading today?" he asked and stepped away long enough to pick up the book he dropped when he pulled you in for a kiss.
"Her Saint" you admitted with flushed cheeks.
"I saw you were reading that on good reads" he smirked as he stood back up again. "You have a thing for stalkers now?"
"I must, since I have one now" you giggled.
"I'll always be your stalker" he winked at you. "Mind if I play some music?" he asked, taking out his phone, kicking off his shoes and taking off his jacket.
"Not at all" you said, moving around to the couch and grabbing your kindle to read off of. Bucky quickly took the end of the couch and tapped his lap. You laid down and put your head in his lap and he started playing with your hair with his right hand, and holding his book with his left. The cats were purring loudly and grooming one another on the sofa, so you completely relaxed. You focused on your book while Bucky's old music comprised mainly of love songs played softly into the room.
"I think we can do this again," Bucky said after a few minutes. "They seem to be getting along," he nodded towards the cats.
"They do," you cooed. "Isn't this supposed to be your first date choice?" you asked him with a playful smile on your lips.
"Doll, any chance I get you to myself is a date" he chuckled. "I mentioned cats because it seemed to have your attention. I was also desperate to see you again, so here I am with my cat" he admitted.
"You and your cat are welcome anytime" you nuzzled in more.
