PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE STARTING!!!
Firstly, I do not own any of these characters, they all belong to Victor Hugo.
This one shot will include suicidal thoughts and I suppose actions so please skip past this one shot if anything like this upsets you!!! I'm sorry if this stops you from being able to read it, I usually try not to include any swearing or mature themes like this in my writing but this is an idea I've had in my head for a while. Also, I'm fortunate enough to not have experienced any of the thoughts Grantaire has so please bear with me if I don't describe it very well, but you're all lovely people so I'm hoping it'll be fine. Okay, now you can continue.
Grantaire stood on the edge of a bridge, looking down at the water below.
Jump, said the voice in his head, No one cares about you and they won't miss you when you're gone. In fact, they'll be happy that they won't have to put up with you anymore. Just jump. Put everyone out of their misery.
He had come from the cafe where he and his friends often met up. He hadn't been in a particularly good mood anyway, yet no one had bothered to ask him what was wrong.
See? the voice had said, They don't care.
Grantaire felt himself preparing to jump.
~*~
"Where's Grantaire?" Enjolras asked Joly, who the brunette usually sat with.
"He just got up and left about five minutes ago. He said he was going for a walk." Joly replied.
"Something's wrong." Enjolras said, his heart beating faster as the awful feeling hit him.
"What?
"I need to find Grantaire."
"I'll go with you." Joly began getting up.
"No. I need to talk to him alone." He ran out of the cafe before Joly could protest.
He ran through the streets, screaming Grantaire's name as he searched.
He stopped when he came to a bridge. There was a figure stood on the edge. A figure that looked an awful lot like Grantaire. A figure that was about to jump.
"Grantaire!" he screamed.
~*~
Grantaire stopped when he heard Enjolras' voice.
Ignore him. Just jump! The voice yelled, but Grantaire ignored it.
"Grantaire what the hell are you doing? Get down from there!" Enjolras cried.
"Go away, Enjy. I-I need to do this."
"No, you can't. Please, Grantaire, I don't know what we'd do without you." Enjolras' hand was now gripping his leg.
"Get off, Enjy." he shook his leg, but the blonde did not let go. Grantaire sighed. "No one will miss me. No one cares enough to miss me. You'll be fine without me."
"Is that really what you think?"
"I don't think; I know."
"Grantaire, we all love you. You're the best person to go to when people need cheering up, friendly advice or even just someone who'll listen. We need you, Grantaire. So, please, just come down from there."
He just feels sorry for you. Don't listen. Jump already! said the voice.
"No, Enjy. Please I don't want you to see this. Just go."
"That's it, you leave me no choice."
Before Grantaire realised what was happening, Enjolras had picked him up, thrown him over his shoulder and was carrying him away from the bridge.
~*~
Grantaire was lighter that Enjolras expected and he carried him with ease.
"Enjolras. Enjolras, put me down."
"Nope."
"Seriously, Enjy, I mean it. Put me down right now!"
"Nuh-uh."
Grantaire began struggle, but Enjolras kept a firm grip on him.
"Enjolras, put me down!" He began beating his fists against Enjolras' back.
"You can do that all you want, but I'm not putting you down."
Grantaire sighed and stopped struggling.
"Can you at least tell me where you're taking me?"
"Back to mine. You're going to stay the night."
"Aren't we a little old for sleepovers?"
"Not tonight."
When they got to his house, Enjolras' put Grantaire down on his bed and sat down next to him.
"Now, tell me what's wrong."
~*~
Grantaire opened his mouth to answer, but no words came out - only a whimper. Then, before he could stop himself, he burst into tears.
"Grantaire? Grantaire, what's wrong?"
"I'm sorry. I-I'm so sorry. I just can't help myself. I'm pathetic."
"Grantaire."
"You should have just let me jump. You should have left me there."
"Grantaire."
"I'm just an extra weight on everyone's shoulders and you guys don't deserve that."
"Grantaire!"
"What!"
"Kiss me."
Grantaire stared blankly at him for a moment. Was he hearing this correctly? When Enjolras didn't move, Grantaire closes his eyes and leaned in to kiss him.
Enjolras' lips were soft, but there was nothing soft about the kiss; it was desperate and passionate. The pair of them had hungered for this for a long time.
Grantaire's hands found their way to the hem of Enjolras' T-shirt and he slipped it over the blonde's head. He placed a hand on his bare chest as they continued to kiss.
Before long, Grantaire felt his own T-shirt being pulled upwards and stopped kissing the blonde to let him pull it off. He then flipped Enjolras onto his back and shifted himself so that he was on top of him.
"You have to promise me that you will never leave me like you almost did tonight." said Enjolras.
"I promise."
Enjolras grinned before cupping Grantaire's face in his hands and kissing him again.
~*~
They fell asleep in each other's arms that night; both of them feeling happier than they ever had before. And as for Grantaire, well, he never heard the voice again.
Whew, that was a long one shot! Again, I'm sorry if I didn't portray Grantaire's depression very well, I just haven't really felt that way myself. I only wrote this because I really liked the image of Enjolras carrying Grantaire and refusing to put him down. Also, if you were expecting smut at the end, I'm sorry to disappoint you. I've never tried writing it but I doubt it would be any good.
Can we just talk about how freaking cute the cover is? It's not mine, I found it on Google images but it's SO CUTE I JUST WANNA CRY!!!!
Aaaaaanyways, thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed it. I will be writing some more of these soon :)
