Grantaire hated Enjolras. He was bossy, slightly arrogant and always did precisely what he was told. He would order everyone else around and yell if anyone got anything the slightest bit wrong.
Enjolras hated Grantaire. He was care-free, clumsy and was always in a world of his own. He spent all of his time doodling in lessons instead of listening to the teacher.
So, as I'm sure you can imagine, they were furious when they were partnered together for an English project.
"WHAT!" they both cried when their teacher told them.
"Now, boys, don't be like that. I think you two just need to spend some time together, perhaps it will allow you to settle your differences." the teacher said. They both groaned, but hurried off to class.
"Look, I want to be with you as much as you want to be with me, but I also want a good grade, so you'd better not screw this up for me." Enjolras warned.
"I wouldn't dream of it." Grantaire smiled sarcastically. Enjolras scowled.
"How about you come over mine after school and we can get to work?" Enjolras suggested.
"Okay." Grantaire replied.
"Okay."
They walked the rest of the way to class in silence.

"What is it that we're supposed to do exactly?" Grantaire asked the blonde sat on the opposite side of the table in Enjolras' kitchen.
"Weren't you listening?" Enjolras replied.
"No, I was drawing a frog."
"A frog?"
"What's wrong with frogs?"
Enjolras sighed. "We have to make up an invention and make a presentation about it."
"Like Dragon's Den?"
"Yes."
"I love that show. It's always fun to see what people come up with."
"Mm hm. Do you want anything to drink before we start? I'm making tea if you want a cup."
"Yes, please."
Enjolras walked over to the counter, grabbing the kettle and filling it with water. He started humming Panic! At The Disco to himself as he waited for the kettle to fill.
"You like Panic! At The Disco?" Grantaire asked.
"Yes, why?"
"They're one of my favourite bands."
"Cool."
"Do you like Twenty One Pilots?"
"Yes. Let me guess, you like them, too?"
"Of course!"
"Maybe we have more in common than we thought." Enjolras walked over to Grantaire and perched himself on the edge of the table.
"Maybe we do." Grantaire smiled.
"I think we should get to know each other better before we start this project."
"Agreed."
"So, what sort of hobbies do you do?"
"Well..."
And so it began, the series of questions that lead them to find that, actually, they had an awful lot in common. Enjolras wasn't as bossy as Grantaire had thought and Grantaire worried a lot more than Enjolras had assumed. The two boys who hated each other were slowly learning to like each other, their friendship as strong as their old hatred. Their teacher had been right; a little time together was all it took for their friendship to bloom.
