Ozpin and Salem's story started with Salem, who at that time, was a woman named Amara who was trapped in a castle. She was rescued by a man named Ozma and together they fought their way out of the castle and lived happily ever after.

Or so they thought. Unknown to them, an illness befell Ozma and took him away from Amara. She consulted with the God of Darkness. Who brought Ozma back to her. Now, in an alternate universe, she had consulted with the god of light, but this version knew of the god of light's answer. So, she went to the darker brother, who did as she requested.

This brought war between light and Dark. With their armies. And the destruction of the first generation of humans. And beings who were called humanoids. They looked like faunuses, but they were more monster than human in appearance. This was the first genocide caused by both Amara and Ozma.

When the God of Darkness lost, he told his brother of why he brought back Ozma. The God of light undid his brother's deed and cursed Amara to roam the world forever as an Immortal. With no hopes of breaking her curse, she was then turned into a horrific version of a witch and a ghost combined.

And thus, Salem was born.

Eventually Remnant was restored. And it's humans resurfaced. But, Salem's hatred for humanity, the creation of the gods, wanted to cause suffering and doom to the humans as well as the faunuses. A new breed of humanoids.

How? She, being now a sorceress, was able to create these creatures that blended within the shadows, and not on the emotions of others as some were told in later times. They were called the Grimm.

When the God of light and darkness saw this, and because they could not undo Salem's immortality, she summoned Ozma, and sent him back to Remnant, in search of 4 relics that would be able to summon them. However, if Salem got her hands on these relics, and destroyed them, she would destroy the Gods of light and darkness. Thus making her the new God with unlimited power at her fingertips.

Instead of doing what Gods commanded him to do, he did the opposite. He found Amara, now called Salem, and reconciled with her. And together, they had 4 children, and led the humans to peace. But this would not last, for the more good Salem did for the humans and faunuses, the more her hatred grew. Her distaste for the creations of the God was beyond anything Ozma had imagine.

It was so bad that she considered turning them all into monstrous creatures, so they could never taste death and suffer just like she did at the hands of the Gods.

Ozma was sorely afraid of what Amara had become. The woman he was in love with was gone. Consumed by Salem. Her alter ego.

But what made it worse, was when Ozma tried to sneak their children away from her one night. And when Salem caught him in the act, this led to a battle that cost them the lives of their children, whose bodies lay lifeless on the ground.

Ozma was a bloodied mess. He was seen crawling, reaching for life, only for Salem to kick him once more and then place her foot hard on his chest.

Before Ozma could say anything else, she turned his body into ashes. Albeit she destroyed his body, she did not destroy his soul. Which lived through countless bodies. Each body being different from the first. Each one asking the genie the same question over and over.

"How can I defeat Salem?"

And she would appear over and over again and give him the same answer: "You can not defeat Salem."

Hearing this over and over again brought despair to Omza, who soon changed his name to Ozpin. And besides himself, he and countless others throughout the eras of life that he lived in, faced Salem over and over again. With the same results that took many lives and were turned into snacks for the Grimm.
