My alarm wakes me up early the next morning. I groan, realizing that I have to go back to school today. I check my phone again and still Levi has not returned my call or answer my text. I sigh thinking of all the possibilities, what happened to him? I squeeze my eyes shut trying not to think of the worst possibility. I just hope I'll see him in school.

Before I get in my new jeep, Aunt Gracelyn grabs my wrist, "Are you sure you're okay, Eleanor?"

"Yes, I'm fine," I regret telling her what happened yesterday, but I thought it was better she knew what was happening, "I'll text you when I'm coming home."

"Okay, if anything happens call me immediately," she says firmly.

"Alright," I say, releasing myself from her grip.

I check over my schedule as I arrive to school and start to head to Physics, my first period, when I run into a girl I don't know.

"I'm so sorry!" I say scrambling to help her up.

"It's fine. I didn't know where I was going," she laughs.

"I haven't seen you around," I say puzzled, "are you new?"

"Yeah," she says nervously, "my name is Ember Edgeworth."

I smile, "I'm Eleanor, so what brings you to Mortem High School?"

"My mom and dad want me to learn more about supernatural since they grew up here," she says with a shrug and her red curls bounce off her shoulder.

"Ahh, yeah I understand that," I say with a laugh, "I was new last year. What sort of supernatural are you?"

"I'm an Elemental Fae. My element is fire."

"That's really cool. I'm just a Saraph Angel."

"A Saraph Angel? Those still exist?" She gasps.

"Yeah," I laugh, "my dad was one, but-" I trail off.

"Oh, I'm sorry," she looks down.

"It's fine. So, I understand how hard it is being new, so how about you sit with me and my friends at lunch?"

"That'd be wonderful!" Her eyes lit up with joy and I wave her goodbye. Finally, I'm going to have a friend who is going to understand."

I walk into Physics and sigh as I see a seating chart hanging on the blackboard. I walk up and find my name, right next to Isaiah Myhre. Great, now he's going to be mad at me for ignoring him all summer. I turn around to see him already sitting there with a smirk plastered on his face.

I sit next to him and put all my belongings down and stare straight ahead while I feel his gaze burning into the side of me.

"And how are you, Hale?" He asks quietly.

"Bored already, and you?" I refuse to turn sideways.

"Wondering why you didn't return any of my texts or calls this summer," I finally turn around and find him with raised eyebrows.

"I don't have an excuse for that," I say casually.

"Good because I didn't want one," he looks me up and down, "you're looking good, Hale."

"You too, Isaiah," I sigh, "I'm sorry."

"Nah, it's alright. I just was worried something happened to you," his smirk disappears and is replaced with sadness. My heart starts racing.

"I'm sorry," I say again quietly as the bell rings.
