Ember's red curls whip around, "you want to spy on Zoe?"

"Yes. I think she's The Black Angel," I add.

"Why would she be The Black Angel though? Wouldn't it be someone more secretive?" Ember looks a little suspicious, but not enough to spy on Zoe.

"That's exactly why I think she's The Black Angel. She's hoping for us to think that."

"Okay that makes sense. I'll help you spy. Are the boys helping out?" she asks me.

I pause and ponder whether or not it would be a good idea, "I don't think so."

"Why not?" Ember frowns.

"Levi's behind in grades," I lie," and Isaiah doesn't want to."

"You're a horrible liar, El;" she rolls her eyes and laugh, "the real reason?"

"Just trust me on this, please," I beg her and she frowns again.

"Alright, El, but I hope you aren't hiding anything from me because best friends don't hide," my heart breaks at the end of her sentence. I don't want to hide kissing Isaiah from her, but I don't want to loose her because of it. I don't deserve a great friend like Ember; she deserves a friend who doesn't kiss her boyfriend behind her back.

I park my jeep a block down from Zoe's house because she knows what kind of car I drive, even my new one. Ember and I walk in silence towards her house. I count the house numbers as they go down. Finally I find 1100.

"This is it," I sigh looking at the white colonial house.

"It's small," Ember looks it up and down.

"Her parents aren't the richest," I click on the flashlight, "Isaiah informed me of this."

"He knows everything," Ember laughs.

"Yeah- he does," I change he subject fast afterwards, "anyways Zoe's parents didn't want her back. I don't know why, but they left her this house and wished her the best of luck. Most likely she's in her room so I'll check the back, and you check the front?"

"Okay. Don't we need a signal or something in case we're caught?" Ember shakes in her hoodie.

"That's what the walky-talky's are for," I throw her one and give her a small smile before heading to the back of Zoe's house.

The house is pretty small, and all the lights on the bottom of the house are dark, so I decide to climb up the rose bush on the side of her house. The thorns prick my hands as I make my way up to the second story. Again, dark.

"Hey, Em. Everything's dark on this side," I frown talking into the walky-talky.

No response.

"Em?" I try again.

Static.

"Com'on Ember! Answer me!" I scream into it.

Nothing.

Then a scream erupts from the walky-talky. In shock, I fall backwards off the rose bush. Passing out as my head hits the grass below.
