Chapter Twelve

Xander

"She's falling!" Octavia does a full spin. My heart stops and the thought of killing Leon escapes me. The only thing on my mind is saving her life. Saving her.

"We will." Octavia promises, the wind rushes past as she picks up speed. "Looks like someone has the same idea." My gaze lands on Cyrus on the back his dragon. He was planning on catching her too. For once I'm glad he's here. One of us will catch her.

Sage body fell lifelessly. She wasn't fighting the wind. Wasn't looking for help. She was just excepting her fate. Not if I have anything to do about it. Sage is not dying today.

"Hurry!" I yell as Octavia dives, dropping us faster than Sages falling body. We lift up, leveling out just in time for her small body to slam down onto the scales in front me. Cyrus circles us for a moment before heading off towards Leon.

My heart stops. Her arm was torched, the skin peeling off as blood runs down already creating a puddle on Octavia's back. Her clothes were soaked, what was left of them anyways. The fabric was burnt. Her sleeve and shoulder gone, along with the whole left side of her shirt, exposing her burnt skin. One side of her pants got burned as well, exposing her thigh. She could've been burned to ash, if they didn't move quick enough...

"Sage." I force myself into her head as I pull her limp body up against mine. She shows no signs of consciousness though. Her eyes stay closed, her body dead weight against mine.

"Stay leveled." I tell Octavia, as I slip my jacket off, dropping it over Sage. Covering her exposed burnt body.

Please don't die. I push my fingers to her neck to feel her pulse. There was one, but it was weak. "Take us back. I need to get her to Alek." Screw what my father says. I couldn't care less about the rules anymore. Alek will heal her. I will deal with my father after if I have to.

Octavia listens, turning towards the flight field. She can't die. I wont allow it. She may hate me, she may hate me forever. I can live with that. What I couldn't live with was her dying. Not when I can prevent it.

"What happened?" Lucinda rushes towards me as I slide down Octavia with Sage in my arms. My jacket covered her burns but it was clear she was hurt, considering she's unconscious and both of us are covered in her blood. I could feel the jealousy radiating off Lucinda, hitting me like a brick. Ugh move on, I wanted to tell her. She has been obsessed with me for years now, it's clearly not happening.

"She needs to see Alek." I say as I rush past her. My heartbeat took over my hearing. Everything moved passed me in a blur. Perks of growing up in the castle, I know it like the back of my hand. I take a quick shortcut, bringing us there even faster.

"Just hold on. Please." I say to Sage, kicking the door to the infirmary open. My hands were too occupied to open the door by the handle. The hinges snap and the door hangs to the side. I'll deal with that later.

A women rushes to me, Grace. She had her grey hair tied back in a bun, her black glasses sliding down her nose. She's been working in the castle longer than I've been alive. She has always taken care of me like I was her son. Her eyes looked like they might pop out of her head as she took in the limp lifeless body in my arms.

"What happened?" She asks in a rush. She takes a closer look at Sage, something clicks in her eyes before saying, "She's a cadet."

"Where's Alek?" I step around her, heading towards his office. I don't care to hear about how she is a cadet. Alek will heal her. I have no problem cutting out anyone who dares to argue with me about it.
