Chapter Twenty-Six
"It's perfect!" Sam shrieks, her dark curls bouncing besides her cheeks. "You're absolutely gorgeous! Look at you!" She spins me by my shoulders, facing me towards the full length mirror. "That's my best friend!"
We both stood in Ella's room, with Ella of course. She finished my dress for the ball and insisted I try it on as soon as possible. I couldn't argue with her, not when it was getting me some time out of training, along with Sam. While the rest of our squad is practicing how to get on and off their dragon, I'm trying on a princess gown with my best friend.
My breath gets caught in my throat when I take in my reflection.
In the mirror stood a girl, wearing the most beautiful maroon dress. A girl wearing a dress fit for a princess, made for a princess.
The sleeves hug the sides of my arm perfectly. Not sliding too low, or digging in. The entire dress sparkled, no matter where the light hit it, sparkles glistened off. Creating a rainbow on the wall. From the waist down flowed out layers on layers of black and red mesh. The dress didn't seem real, I didn't look real. It was my face on the body in the mirror but the rest... I look magical. I look like a princess.
"It's beautiful." I whisper as I spin to look at the back. The corset tied in the back with a black silk bow. I've never worn a dress this fancy, this... Stunning.
"You think so?" Ella steps to my side to adjust the sleeves, nerves clear on her face. "I have two pairs of gloves I made. I couldn't decide between red or black."
"Ooo the black might look really good." Sam says, I turn to see her standing beside the bed. Ella had laid both pairs of gloves on the bed for me. She reached down to pick up the black pair and held it out.
They both had the same design, lace roses that went up to my elbows. I take the pair from her hands and slip them on.
"Yes. Just... Yes." Sam's eyes were glistening as she looked me over. "It's perfect." She blinks and a tear rolls free down her cheek.
"Please don't cry." I say as I face the mirror again.
"I'm sorry." Sam laughs lightly, "I'm just so happy for you."
"What do you think?" Ella asks softly, reaching out to grab my hand. "I was worried the fingers would be tight, or too big." She smiles, "I hadn't measured them."
"I love it. They fit perfectly." The black was perfect. Everything was perfect. I feel and look like a princess. "Thank you." I threw my arms around her in a hug. She's been so nice to me, and made this whole dress, and gloves. I don't deserve it. It's too wonderful. Too beautiful.
"I'm glad you like it." She pulls away, giving me another look over. "Alright, lets get you out of this. Remember no thinking of it." She gives me a look then Sam.
"We won't." I assure her with a smile.

"Damn that king and his stupid rules." Sam says, as she rolls a log into the trees. "Doesn't want to spend money on an obstacle course, so we make one and he still has a problem." She faces me, rubbing her hands on her pants. The king wasn't exactly happy when he found out what we were during out here.
