Chapter Thirty-three

There's beeping in my ear. Too loud and annoyingly constant.

But it's sound, a sign I've been stumbling to find for I don't know how long anymore. Whether it's beeping or yelling, I'm clawing towards it. Anything to get me out of this endless darkness.

"She's going to be okay." I hear a faint whisper. I know that voice... But I can't place who. It's not my father but it's someone-

"I know." Another whisper, but this time I know the voice.

I try to move my body-look around but there's nothing.

Nothing to see. Nothing to feel. I can't tell if I'm standing or laying down.

I try to scream yet nothing moved past my lips. Tried clawing at the darkness but reached nothing.

"You should get some sleep."

"I'm fine." The soft voice answers again. I need to wake up. I need to see him. I need to know this is real.

Wake up. Wake up. Wake up.

I manage to get my eyes to open, and the beeping beside my head picks up. I glance up to the source to find that I'm hooked up to some kind of machine, with tubes connected to an IV in my arm, and stickers placed all over my chest.

"Princess." I hear his soft voice and I glance over to see Xander sitting in a chair beside the bed.

He's here. He's sitting next to me, alive. I do a scan of his body and let out a sigh when I notice no blood stains.

He looks beat, hair messed up and going in all directions. There's dark bags under his pink swollen eyes. He's been crying...

Princess. Crazy how one word can make me want to curl up and hide. Before I can ask him what's going on, someone else is talking from the other side of me.

"Hey." Alek says softly. I glace over to find him standing against the counter with a gentle smile, "You're finally awake." He steps closer, pressing a button on the machine and the beeping finally stops. "You're healed, but you lost a lot of blood so we had to do a transfusion. You can thank your best friend, she has the same blood type."

"Sam gave me her blood?" I whisper out, my voice raspy.

"Yes." Alek says softly, "You have a rare type we don't carry and it seems so does you're best friend."

Tears swell in my eyes. Sam saved me...

"Let me get this out of your arm." He says, picking up my arm that has the IV. "You might feel a pinch." He says, carefully pulling away the tape holding it in place.

The 'pinch' was nothing and I even let out a light laugh at how tense I got. All the stickers on my chest were connected with wires and he works quickly to disconnect them all.

"See, easy." He smiles as he goes to throw everything in the garbage. "You are allowed to leave if you're feeling okay to walk. If not, take all the time you need."

"Okay, thank you." I offer him a soft smile before finally looking back at Xander.

"Of course, princess."

Princess.  I flinch, and it doesn't go unnoticed. Xander's brow furrow, his eyes seeming darker as they bore into me.

"Thank you." Xander manages to tells him softly.
