Chapter Twenty-Seven
The next day flew by in a breeze. I close my eyes tightly hoping sleep will take over again. I was tossing and turning all night. My nerves eating me alive. Resulting in me getting little to no sleep.
Today is the day I've been dreading. The sun peaks at me though the window and I pull the blanket over my head.
A soft chuckle tells me I'm not alone.
I throw the blanket back, sitting straight up. The air around by bed becomes a shield on instinct before misting away when I see Xander standing in the doorway with a tray of food. The smell of bacon and coffee fills the room and my mouth salivates.
"Good morning princess."
I groan and drop my head in my hands. "Don't call me that."
The door shuts with a soft click, he carries the tray to me, placing it down on my blanket. "I could feel your nerves down the hallway." He sits next to me, placing a soft kiss against my temple. "Everything is going to be okay."
I grab the cup of hot coffee sitting next to the plate of food. "Do we have training today?" I change the subject.
He smirks, "Of course. Do you think my father would give you guys a day off?"
"Right." I drink some of the coffee, letting it warm me up.
"But, I'm giving you the day off." He kisses my cheek, picking up a piece of bacon. "We don't need you getting hurt before tonight, and you're going to need your strength to dance." He bites the bacon and waits for me to say something.
"No, I'll come today." I grab the fork and stab a piece of the cut up pancake in syrup and plop it in my mouth.
"Princess-"
"Please." I don't know why I'm begging. He can't tell me what to do. He notices the same time I do and just smirks at me. I only roll my eyes, "I'm coming today." I say again.
"I know." He says with a sigh, "I know that look in your eyes."
I plop another piece of pancake in my mouth and he continues, "Always so stubborn."
~~~
Always so stubborn.
Why was I like this?
Sweat rolls down my forehead but I don't stop. I run and make the jump again, my arms stretching for her leg. My fingers just reaching her claws. But I waste no time in pulling my weight up and climbing up to the back of her neck.
"Again." She huffs.
"My arm's are killing me." I say between my gasps. "That had to have been quicker than," I gasp, throwing my hand over my beating heart. "The last time. " I fall against the cool scales on the back of her neck.
"No actually that was slower."
"Well I'm done." I drop my arms lifelessly against her scales, "I have to go to the ball tonight."
"I seem to remember the prince giving you the day off. You decided to show up."
I groan but don't bother sliding down her leg again. I will sit right here till the end of training if I have to.
