The man who sat in front of me was my dad. My dad. He didn't look at all worried, not even caring that his only daughter was sitting opposite him. I folded my arms and frowned at him.

His hair hung in dread locks, with beads hung here and there. His bandana was a faded red and he had a pretty stupid grin on his face that really got on my nerves.

"So you're Lia?" He asked.

I raised my eyebrows at him and smirked. He gulped and said, "Blimey you remind me of your mother."

"And is that a bad thing?" I asked, trying to keep the annoyance out of my voice.

"I don't think so..." he muttered.

Seth was looking at us apprehensively, sensing my irritation.   He cleared his throat loudly.

"Lia will you come with me a minute?" Seth said coaxingly.

I grinned. "Fine."

I got up and followed him up the stairs that lead to the attics. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling and I could here Jack struggling behind me. Seth stopped me outside a curtain that hung in a doorway.

His expression was cautious as he said, "Don't freak out, okay? And please consider my story before you try to kill me."

Why would I want to kill him? I thought. He isn't that bad.

Seth held his breath then pulled back the curtain.

"Oh Seth," I moaned. "What have you done?"

Sat on a rug, big eyed and scared, was a dark haired girl. She crouched protectively into the corner, holding her stomach. And then the full impact of what had happened hit me. I felt my face freeze over. I turned around slowly to face Seth.

"You got this girl pregnant?"

He nodded.

"Out of wedlock?"

He nodded yet again. My lip curled. Jack stepped in the way, blocking my view.

"Don't worry Lia, nothing will happ-"

"SHUT UP SPARROW!" I yelled into his stupid face. He blinked.

"What?"

I breathed more heavily. "I don't need you sticking your fat nose in."

Jack walked over to the mirror, just to get a glimpse of his nose and then said, "Why are you being so unpleasant?"

"Unpleasant?" I growled under my breath. "Maybe its because my brother it going to be a father and he hasn't even got a ring on the girl's finger?"

"Look here-"

"Or maybe the fact that I've just met my father after wishing he was dead for nearly 16years!"

Seth sighed. "Lia calm down."

I breathed slowly in and out but I was never really very good at calming down. Jack looked as though he had been slapped in the face, then he simply said, "Huh," before stomping out of the room.

Seth took my hand. "Lia please come with us. Irina needs help, I need help and Dad..." I glared at him. "Dad could really use some support."

I groaned. "Do I have to come?"

Jack popped his head back. "Yes does she have to come?"

Seth's mouth twitch as though he was going to smile as I glared at Jack.

"Well it would be nice for you to come."

"Would it?" Jack muttered.

I walked slowly around the room, avoiding the corner where the girl sat.

"Why should I sail with you?" I asked. Then I answered my own question. "No I shouldn't sail with you because your made up of a brother who abandoned me for 2 years and a father who didn't even know I existed until 18 months ago."

Jack raised his eyebrows. "Actually it was about 2 years ago..."

"Shut it sparrow! I don't care. It may have been two years ago but that's still 14 years too late! So no I'm sorry but I wont be sailing with you, OKAY?!"

Seth cast a quick look at Jack. Jack nodded and I narrowed my eyes.

I turned to go. Suddenly I felt someone grabbing my arms and pulling them behind me. A rag was pulled over my mouth as I tried to scream and I felt something whack me in the head. Stars blinked in my eyes as I felt them closing, falling into a dark abyss.
