Lord Beckett sat opposite us. The cabin was grander than anything the pearl had, money wise. In Jack's opinion it was a ridiculous looking ship, with her spotless sails and not a drop of rum on board.
"I suppose we should get down to business," sighed Beckett, stirring his tea. Jack picked up his own cup and poured some rum in from a flask and then downed the whole thing. I merely pretended to sip. I didn't trust Beckett and I didn't trust his tea.
"I wanted to discuss the future of a certain Isla Sparrow." Though this was not unexpected, I could feel Jack tense beside me. Seth had come with us, only because Isla was on the Black Pearl with Gibbs. Maybe that wasn't the best baby sitter we could have had but still.
"What about her?" I snapped.
Beckett raised an eyebrow before answering in the same annoyingly good voice.
"We have a proposal to make of you. Isla shall be raised by a family member on land, not sailing at all before her 20th birthday. If you do this, then we shall not kill her. A child pirate is a great threat to our society and though the governors have voted against actually killing the child, we know that we cannot let the child become one of your people."
"And if we don't raise her on land and she stays at sea?" contemplated Jack.
"We will simply take the child, sink the Black Pearl and kill you right now."
As though to prove his point, two guards came in carrying guns.
And though I had no way to prove it, I knew what Jack's decision would be for he couldn't face his beloved Pearl sinking, no way. And it sounded weird, but I couldn't face that either. No doubt Jack had a escape plan but if he could find an escape from not seeing the Pearl sinking and us going down with it, then I was a sea slug.
"So if Isla wanted to become a pirate at 20, would she be able to go and do it? Without us getting killed and without her getting killed? And you'll leave my Pearl alone?" queried Jack.
"You have my word," promised Beckett. Jack smirked, as though his word didn't mean any more than a hair on his head. Which it probably didn't.
Jack looked thoughtful for a moment then held out his grubby hand. "We have an accord."
Beckett looked disgusted but shook Jack's hand grimacing slightly. Jack grinned slightly. I sat with my mouth slightly open. What had Jack done?
