I stood at the doorway, clutching Isla in my arms. Jack was smirking at me; of course he wasn't going to stay on land looking after a baby. He was always going to get me to do it.

Seth had fallen behind. When we got back up to the deck of Beckett's ship, we found out that he had attempted to shoot Annabelle Beckett, who was in her cabin. Consequently he was arrested with the charge of attempted murder, piracy and thievery, all of which were enough to land him in jail or possibly the gallows. But Jack, showing some decency, said he refused to leave the ship without Seth and Beckett compromised, saying that Seth would be sentenced to 15 years in prison but not actually be killed. Why Jack trusted Beckett, I did not know but now I just go with it.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye," said Jack, shaking the tiny hand of Isla, who grabbed his beard.

"Why do I have to stay?" I whined, though knowing that the descision had been made.

"You know why."

I watched Jack as he carefully eased Isla's fingers off his beard and touched a finger to his hat in farewell.

"You will visit?"

"When full moon is due, watch the horizon. For a ship with black sails will be there."

I sighed as Jack lumbered down the street towards the docks, then I closed the door behind him. Isla started whimpering in my arms, and I held her close and began to rock her, singing under my breath.

"The King and his men stole the queen from her bed, and bound her in her bones. The seas be ours, and by the powers; where we will, we'll roam..."
